One problem of course is that these figures are for 2005.

Crime is bad in Orlando. Be glad that those are 2005 numbers because I guarantee you that 2006 and 2007 numbers are worse.

As somebody who is yet to move over there, I'll of course take your word for that

As someone who just moved FROM there feel free to take MY word for it....
It was all over the news last year and the beginning of this year comparisons to the previous years and it was getting worse.

I don't do sarcasm :)
I wasn't disputing crime figures, or peoples perceptions or experiences thereof and the smiley on my first post was to show that I wasn't in attack mode, merely that I wouldn't base any thinking on a single set of figures that were out of date.
I will, no doubt, change my tune when I arrive and discover the reality when living there rather than just visiting

those are 2005 stats --- as someone already mentioned. those figures were recorded when orlando had 22 murders a couple yrs ago. it was twice that in 2006. wait for the new stats, it wont be purty.

Broward took a major increase in violent crime too. We had like 88 murders this year, which is still a below average rate for its size, but a far cry from when a county of 1.6 million had a number in the low 30s in 2003!!!
Violent crime is actually soaring nation wide. Overall property crime is acutally going down in Florida, while overall violent AND nonviolent crime are going up in other states.

Actually to be honest, when you arrive you'll be asking yourself what the fuss is all about. I never really noticed a huge increase in criminal activity except for what was reported on the news and reports detailing a sharp increase..... Never really had issues with bullets whizzing by my head or anything.....
Good luck on your move.
