LA: As you probably researched, Stoneybrook is on the far east side of the county.
If you are working on the west side, I might suggest you look at the neighborhoods of Winter Garden, a nice outlying community

Eastwood is another nice community, off of Alafaya, on the east side and very close to Stonybrook.
If you go to www rentals com, and enter zip code 32828, you will likely find some Eastwood rentals.

There are 2 rentals in the area now and it is a great neighborhood. Everyone I've placed there loves it.
awesome community center and fairly low HOA's for what you get..... Stoneybrook has 3 manned gates. It is an excellent choice for East Orlando.

Yes! And it's only 7 miles from DW! At Disney's back door. Also has a brand new shopping center. I LOVE the area.

Just to add my 2 cents: I've lived in Stoneybrook for about 5 years now and overall I would recommend it. There are some things that annoy me, which include the HOA. Fees are very low, considering how nice the gym, pool, parks, and paths are. However, our house and others in the street have gotten letters telling us everything from "fix your garden" to "power wash your driveway." Mind you, we live in a perfectly nice street, with overall nice lawns and manicured gardens. Also, you're very limited in choosing house colors or if the community feels like changing who they get cable TV from, well, then you don't really have a choice. But I think those are the things you deal with when living in a gated community, so you might already be used to it.

Overall, the area is great. I would recommend living close to one of the exits, though, because all the stop signs get old, fast. From the Alafaya gate, you're at the Waterford Lakes shopping center in literally five minutes by car. (Hopefully the new road widening will not only ease traffic, but also add the missing sidewalk/bike path I've been hoping for.) You can be at UCF in 15 minutes, Downtown 20 - 30 minutes, traffic permitting. The other end of Stoneybrook is nice too, because you're right next to the schools, shops, and restaurants in Avalon Park (another area you might consider). Both Waterford Lakes and Avalon Park have regular (family) events, like farmers markets, movie nights, or fairs.
