My Dad had a stroke on Friday and will need to be transferred to a facility that can provide in-patient PT, Speech Therapy and OT. My Mom was interested in knowing about the facilities in or around Port Orange as she wants to be somewhere close to her home in New Smyrna. Any suggestions and experiences with any of the facilities or therapists would be great. Are the facilities in Orlando or Daytona Beach that much better?
Thanks in advance!

Sorry to hear of your situation. I have just been through it as well. I found the Medicare website to be helpful in terms of facility ratings and of course plan your initial on-site visits to check it out unannounced.

There are two highly rated facilities near her but the deciding factor of course will be space availability, which will ultimately dictate where he winds up.

Ocean View Nursing & Rehabilitation Center

Port Orange Nursing and Rehab

There are some facilities in Daytona Beach with high ratings as well.
Good luck!

This may not be directly answering your question but my father also suffered a traumatic brain injury years ago. The prognosis was very bleak, they said he would never walk or talk again. Today although he is not the same person he used to be, he is far from a vegetable. He walks, talks and even cheers on the Magic players by name even though they said he never recover any type of short term memory. We were blessed with a great team of doctors and rehab professionals but the biggest part of the progress is sometimes tied to the times not in rehab. Have faith, be patient and spend time trying to make him feel comfortable with things he enjoyed before the injury. The rehab is a constant process and sometimes family are the best therapist. I sincerely wish the best for you and yours and hope this helps.
