I am looking to dump my megabank and join a credit union. However, I was wondering if anyone here had a preferred credit union or knew of a website that compared local credit unions to each other.

The ones I have considered have been CFE Credit Union and McCoy Credit Union. Are they all pretty much equal or do they have notable differences?

Many credit unions are private and you must work for a specific company or industry or have another specific affiliation to join. Good luck in your search.

Most of the ones I've seen around town (Fairwinds, CFE, McCoy, and even Postal Office) are open to the public. If you live, work, or worship in the county in which they are located, you can join. I was just wondering if there are major differences between them as far as service offerings and quality are concerned. Out of the 4, Fairwinds and CFE are winners with me so far because they have better looking websites. I guess there isn't much difference between them besides location.

Belong to both CFE and Fairwinds..prefer CFE.

Fairwinds has costs similar to banks and CFE's costs are less.

When I lived in the area we were a member of the Orlando Fed Credit Union. They always were fair, easy on loans and great rates. Excellent service when we needed it.
