Hey all here's a heads up, about a month ago my roommate got phone calls everyday from a guy with a heavy middle eastern accent, trying to scare him into believing that he owed $1,500 and had a judgment against his social security number. I saw that a bazillion others got this same call with the exact same scenario. The only way we finally got him to stop calling was to stop speaking English. Here are some details for that scam:

Well today, we got another UNKNOWN NUMBER call, this time for me! And guess what?? It was the same guy with the same accent. I'd know that voice anywhere!! Except now he has a new gig!!! This time he claims to be calling from the United States Grant Department (I never heard of that department), and that I've been awarded a $5,000 grant that I never have to pay back. Hey, can you imagine that the government is going to give me all that? Either can I. Here are some details for this scam:

Consumer complaints about Government Grant Scams

Just wanted to let you know that they are calling around this area code now. Have fun with it! Aly

These people have called me a number of times. It was always the same, someone with a foreign accent saying I had won a grant. The last time they called I told them they were obviously lying because no one in the government would ever hire them as they did not know how to talk on the phone and their English was so poor no one in the US government would ever hire them. I started laughing out loud at them saying how funny they were to call and expect anyone to believe them. Well, this apparently angered the caller and they started cursing at me! I just continued to laugh and say how now they just proved that they were a liar and a scammer because they did not know how to be polite on the telephone or even take a joke, that obviously they were a liar because they had not been properly trained how to be polite on the phone. I just continued to laugh as by now it was very funny, indeed, that they did not hang up. So I told them that again they proved my point because anyone who had actually been hired and trained by the US government would have already hung up, that they didn't even know how to hang up the phone. So making a point to laugh as hard and as loud as I could I just said, "What an idiot you are not to hang up! Again that proves my point that you are a liar and a scam artist, and not a very good one at that." Then they threatened me saying they knew who I was and where I lived. This just proved, once again, that these people are scam artists operating off shore. So when they call you hang up and have a good laugh at what idiots they are to think they can scam Americans!

This is crazy they called me with their heavy middle eastern accent talking about when I get to the parking lot then call them and they will give me the information. They said it was no fee at first and I was randomly selected because I pay my bills and file my taxes on time, haven't filed for bankruptcy in the past six months, and the third thing is I never been committed for a crime or arrested. I said is this a scam she was like what is a scam? I said OK since English is not your first language and you don't understand then is it a hoax. Do you understand that? She said yes ma'am I do and no this is real. Imagine all the people they stay on the phone with till they get the money for the security deposit in the amount of 250.00. I think if the Government selects you to receive money it will not be at a Western Union. Scammmmmmmmm

This guy just doesn't quit! He called here so often that we referred to him as Bernie since that's the name he used on one of the calls. He has all kinds of scams going - the same story as this one, and also something having to do with owing money on a payday loan (I never use those quick loan companies). I don't answer the phone anymore if I don't recognize the number or the caller. If it's that important they can leave a message, and when he did we just ignored it. The last time he called here I detailed it at myfloridalegal.com. Never heard anything from them but I'm sure they have gotten plenty of the same complaint. Until we finally just stopped answering the phone the best way to blow him away was to let him have it in Spanish until he hung up.

I got a call from someone that was calling because of the attacks on my computer... I hung up and ended the attack. It is sad people are too stupid to not see the scam.
