My wife and I are considering moving our family of 4 (2 daughters 6 yrs and 3 mos) to central FL from NC. We currently live in the Charlotte area so we are used to big cities, heat and humidity. We both can work from home with our current jobs so no need to worry about finding jobs or commuting.

We would like to be close to Disney so for those more familiar with the area where would you suggest looking and where should we stay away from?

We are looking to rent and our budget is $1400/mo or less.

We also need something where my mother could live close by as she is planning on relocating with us and watches the baby during the day for us. She would like to stay under $750/mo.

Thanks in advance!

We moved from Waxhaw, NC right outside of Charlotte about a year ago. Why are you moving from that area?? We moved because of the lack of jobs and we were just finding it so hard to make it financially. My kids loved it though and are still grieving about it. My 16 yr. old son loves it here but my 14 and 13 yr. old girls are having a hard time. My husband and I both work for Disney and have pretty good jobs so we are here to stay! We live in downtown Winter Garden but we are looking to move closer to the Windermere area right behind Disney. We really like the Winter Garden/Windermere area and find it very safe! Even compared to Waxhaw which had its share of crime for being such a small town. Anyway, if I can be of help, let me know!! Good Luck in your search!!

Noreen

Thank you for the input.

Noreen - We are moving because we need a change of pace and find we are frequently searching for something to do on the weekends. Finding things to do in Orlando won't be an issue. Fortunately we don't need to worry about jobs as we work from home.

Understatement of the week, thanks for the love. This weekend I have too many options and am getting sick of missing stuff lol.

Hi Guys...was reading your posts about relocating from Charlotte, NC...I'm currently in Charlotte trying to relocate to Phoenix, Arizona...(Fingers Crossed, if house sells)..... You are so right about Charlotte.....As as single person,.....Charlotte "reeks"......NOthing to do...Definitely a married town....I am hoping Phoenix can give more options...I have beent there on several occasion with my manager...Absolutely love it...But I also can see why you would want to relocate to the Orlando area.....just far more to do and probably more opportunities as far as jobs are concerned.....

Definitely more job opportunities!! We lost our shirts in Charlotte because of the lack of jobs!! Plus if you get a job, they are not long term and just not real jobs! My husband left NJ for a job with a smaller company in NC and after 2 weeks they started laying off. He was sooo pissed - he even said to them - "Didnt you know 2 weeks ago you were going to lay off"? They didnt care!! When you are out of work in Charlotte, you are out of work and there is not a good possibility for anything!! We came to Orlando and he has been getting offers left and right!! We both landed good jobs with Disney (He is a mechanic on Space Mountain and I'm a bus driver) with really good benefits. We do miss our friends in Waxhaw (right outside of Charlotte) but that wasnt paying the bills!! We told our kids who are still grieving over the move, that when their friends pay our bills than we can move back - haha!! Actually we will never move back there!! Dont' really think they like Yankees too much!! We are much more accepted here in Orlando!! lol!

Great post, thanks for sharing! Yes it should be noted that Charlotte is a pretty boring city and I know from living just over an hour away and going there expecting something I was used to in Orlando. No such luck, but I did get a skyline and an airport. Yankees fit in much better in FL than NC, people thought I was from up north becuase I didn't have and accent, when I said Fl, they said same thing. Not exactly, but I got the point.

There are just as many "yankees" in Charlotte as in Orlando. Charlotte is a haven for NY'ers. Cities like Cary have one of the highest percentages of NY'ers (per capita) in the US.
