We are also moving from NJ next year and are interested in the Lake Mary area. We have a 10 year old but also want to be close enough to "attractions" so that our older children will want to visit. Is this a good area for a child entering middle school? Are there other areas we should look in to? Thanks!

Yes, it's a great place for a middle school aged kid. Read back through the thread, people have already made many great suggestions for the OP that would also apply to you.

Price range would be a helpful tool for recommendations for both posters. Some of the suggestions are for very high end housing which can start at 500K and go up (Alaqua, Heathrow etc.)

Lake Mary is a good area because you're not far off I-4 and Seminole County schools, for the most part, are good schools. Longwood is also a good choice for the same reasons.

I agree and disagree with you there. Those areas are definitely at the higher end of the spectrum and can, in some cases, top a million dollars for homes but you can find homes in there for sub 500k as well. For the most part though you're right.

There are areas near those locations though that are good sections to be in and have homes in the 100-300k range. For example homes near the back of Heathrow towards Orange Blvd can be found in the 150-300 range. Also, you can go east of I-4 on Lake Mary blvd till a little past Longwood Lake Mary Blvd and find homes in that range that are still in good areas as well. The further east you get from I-4 on Lake Mary Blvd the less desirable it can become, with areas like Timicuan being an exception.

It really depends what you are looking for. You will see that Lake Mary is a fantastic city for a family. For a more upscale living experience, take a look at Heathrow/Lake Mary...the schools are terrfic there too. Thanks for all the suggestions! We would like to stay on the 400K range. Don't know what that will get down there - up here , not too much!! Actually that is probably above what we would need. Put it this way: would like 5 bedrooms but will be fine with 4. I would like 3 bathrooms too. Nothing more than 3000 sq ft because then I have to CLEAN it!!

Check out the Forest Lake/Lake Sylvan area just north of Heathrow, where you'll get more for your dollar per square foot and reap the benefit of living in the same area. There are several 5 bedroom/3 bath 3000 square foot homes (with a pool) in the 400K-425K range there.

Thanks for the information. I see that Lake Sylvan is part of Sanford, correct? I am having a little more trouble finding anything on Forest Lake. Where is that in relation to Lake Mary where my husband will be working?

Thanks again for the suggestions - this whole process is a little daunting!

Christine

It's called Lake Forest and it's in the nice part of Sanford. In your price range, you'll be set.
