I moved to Fl with my son when he was young. Only after he started asking a lot of questions did I realize I changed his whole world. His friends, cousins, aunts & uncles, everybody was a thousand miles away. Everybody now was new but none of the new people had a family bond.

You notice the separation most around holidays, especially if your family normally has big get-togethers. Yes people will visit you, but as time goes on it will be less and less. I myself want to go new places on vacation, not the same place over and over. Traveling back home multiple times a year is an expensive hassle with holiday travel being the worst.

I made a good living for over 10 years selling homes to people when they moved down, then selling them again when they moved back. Family was a main reason but not the only one. A few times people have moved down with kids and the grandparents followed. That worked out well. There are those that don't have any family left, or don't have family that is close so it's not an issue for them. Trust your gut feeling. If you have doubts they will likely only grow once you move.

And we are only talking about the family issue here. There are many others. Read as many threads on here as you can. Good luck with whatever you decide.

We will be moving to the Orlando area in two days, and although I will miss our families, I don't feel that it will effect us.We have twin boys who are 4 1/2, and in the last four years I can count on the number of times the family has helped with the kids. We actually have had to pay a niece to watch the boys just so we could share a dinner or movie night out. So,as far as needing family help, I think we will be OK. And as Holidays go, we really only celebrated with my sister and her family, and now she has grandchildren, it's really not the same. I'm thrilled to be moving and I know we will make new traditions and new friends.
