I just want to get away for a bit and see what else is out there.

When ya said cross off Lake Jasmine is because of the community itself or the neighborhood? I lived in my share of ghettos, so its nothing. I always know my surroundings and know how to check myself.

As far as churches go Im looking for a Baptist church with a choir.

Yes, I will be driving.

Can you please tell me why your deciding to leave Orlando and why do you think of staying?

Lake Jasmine is nice itself, but it's not the ghetto, it's a troubled side of town. Just crime issues, although recently the Americana/OakRidge/Holden area has been doing ok actually. Better yet just check it out physically and get a vibe for yourself.

Ahhh there is
St.John
The Hope
New Destany

Matter of fact I have to ask around so I can get the proper names and locations for you

I've been in Orlando my whole life, Thats not the issue but I have seen what Orlando used to be and what it is now and I just need a change in scenery. I'm tired of the people, not because they are bad but their way of thinking here is so limited seem like. It appears you only find open minded people on rare occasions. I just need to expand my mind, experience new people, etc. Too many negative thoughts here, I just want a fresh start. Its some more personal stuff too but thats the basics

I am thinking about staying because while it's bad to me, there are several areas around Orlando which are fantastic to me, as far as living and being in the community. I don't want to stay in Orlando itself but the Metro varies from county to county city to city. Overall I don't like the area but it's always something to do here and I mean always, unless there is a thunderstorm lol

I plan on checking out the communities physically but, Im not going to visit all of them. I'm just narrowing it down and so I can check em out in order. I hate to drive in a big circle. Ya know what I mean? I like to go in order cause to me thats how I find out an area better.

I shall look into those places.

I've been up there before but, when I was younger to Disney World & Universal and I dont remember none of the surroundings....lol. Im a laidback person and I also like to be on scene and sometimes I just like to chill at home watching tv or writing music. It's great to know that there are other things to do besides visit the amusement parks. Now I need to find a poetry club....

Most you don't have to visit. I would just visit Lake Jasmine and see for yourself. The rest are decent and me or none of the other Orlando posters would not give you bad feeedback. Trust me I understand Orlando and driving should not be mixed. it's so spread out you'd actually need half a day or more.

Universal -______- I work there . Ugh Lol. I love the amusement parks though I can not front! But since it's been that long the surroundings have changed a bit. I would have suggested some apartments on Kirkman to you or Conroy road. They are extremely nice and not far from anything at all, you know just for you until you got used to the area that would be a decent place to start.

Anything else specifically you into? Like museums or a specific art like a music, theatre type thing. I just asked someone about a Poetry Club, I was invited for my poetry but I never went but when you mentioned it I think you might be interested, i'm waiting on the info though!

I personally would avoid Oak Ridge and Americana, areas. They really are troubled areas and have been for as long as I can remember. There are some newer apt and condo complexes around Americana and Texas Ave, but they are not worth it to be in that area.

Have you also considered East Orlando? Perhaps around Union Park, UCF, and Waterford Lakes areas?

I'm trying to leave this area actually. I live on Texas Ave I hate it. The apartments are cheap here bit I didn't recommend them for that very reason although it has got better, still just an area to avoid

My parents lived at the Universal Suites on OBT between Americana and Holden for about a year, the Sheriff's Deputies were always blazing up and down that part of OBT with sirens screaming. We have a similar road in Las Vegas just like OBT called Maryland Parkway, and Twain Ave is like Americana Blvd. My gf and I just moved out of that area

IMO, the OBT doesnt really improve until you are south of Central Florida Parkway. But honestly there are unsavory characters EVERYWHERE along OBT, even in Hunter's Creek

Back in 2008, I lived off Hunter's Creek Blvd right across from the golf course and I remember walking late at night and saw a homeless man who asked me how far away he was from the intersection of OBT and West Colonial. Bus 4 had stopped running and when I told him he had an almost 15 mile walk up OBT he realized how lost he was. I think he was either high or drunk, not sure

If GucciDiva looks hard enough, she will find an affordable place in a great area of town. FloridaBorn, I'm making this list for her on where to avoid, tell me if you agree

Bad Areas
East Orlando along Semoran Blvd, Goldenrod, and Curry Ford
Orange Blossom Trail (anywhere north of CFL Parkway)
Parramore Ave
Washington Shores (John Young and Orange Center Blvd)
Kirkman Road
Silver Star Road (east of Ocoee)
Pine Hills Rd
Hiawassee (north of Old Winter Garden Road)
Taft (South Orange Ave)
Oak Ridge Rd
Americana Blvd
Millenia (even though its upscale, its too close to the bad areas)
Sky Lake (OBT and Sand Lake Road)
Kissimmee
Poinciana (too far out, and too much crime)
Lee Road
Rosemont
Pine Hills

I may have forgotten some FloridaBorn, I've been away for awhile now, let me know if I missed any

So, you're basically saying MOST of Orlando is horrible and/or extremely seedy.

Why should she avoid those areas? I live in the area, not one crime on texas Ave since I been here. NOT ONE. I Understand most of the neighborhoods you mentioned are predominately black, and I know the black communities here are filled with trouble but that is no different from the other side of Orlando. If you ask me no part of Orlando is all that safe to be honest. Sky Lake, has not had any crimes. Yes it has sketchy activity with OBT involved but the general area is nice to stay. Millenia is not a bad area either. IF anything young white woman are targeted in this area if you get my drift (Not A Racist Comment. Just In The Likes OF All The White Women Gone Missing Or Whatever In The Past Few Years)

Crime in Orlando is sporadic. You won't go into any area and someone is going to shoot or rob you because thats what they do. No matter how trouble one community is from the next that is not the case with Orlando. Crimes here are more of retaliation, or specific targets as in they have some kind of a plan because you did something to them or you came across the wrong people. I stay in an area notorious for being bad, but nothing not one thing has happened except drugs but where is that not?

Anyhow if anything does happen many people in Orlando won't report it, it's the fear of retaliation, not only that give credit to the OCSO for doing their job. When the new guy got in crime in ORLANDO dropped off big time and I think Orlando has done well. Does shyt still happen? yes of course but it's not all bad.

I would only agree to not make those areas a first choice though but not to classify them as avoiding them. I feel as though many of these areas don;t offer as much as other places around the Metro.

I was simply stating an opinion. After reading your post, I realized you're right crime in Orlando is sporadic, an when violent crime does occur its because the victim knew their assailant (ie drug deal gone bad, gang related, the wrong crowd, etc)

I did not mean to point out all the predominantly black communites as "areas to avoid" or "bad areas" I hope you didnt think that was racist, my gf is black and I'm white and I would never say anything like that, but lets not make this a race thread

I do agree that once Beary and McCoy left their respective departments crime in Orange County did drop drastically and I hope it continues to improve. Orlando seems to have a lot of repeat offenders, it seems like every person who is arrested has multiple offenses on their records

I think more people need to cooperate with the OCSO and OPD, cant they report crimes and remain anonymous? One thing is with Orange County is that it is now a minority-majority county, yet the OPD and OCSO officers asre predominantly white. Besides fear of retalitiation is it at all possible there may be some reverse racism towards the caucasian police officers? I think if more people cooperated with the police (ie if they witness a murder but remain anonymous) the crime rate in Orlando would DROP big time even further

FloridaBorn, I hope I am not rubbing you or anybody else here the wrong way with my comments
