I have been living here in Clermont for almost three yrs now and my son has gone to Lost Lake Elemantry School. We live in a development fairly new called Bent Tree so this year they decide to rezone all the kids in this development as well as others. I mean from my house to Lost Lake its like 7 minutes now he has to go to Pine Ridge this year which is like 25 minutes away. I just want some feedback from people that are annoyed about this like I am. Thanks

Welcome to Florida - School districts get shuffled around about every couple of years or so. Unless you live within about a mile of the school your kids are attending, you can plan on school rezoning affecting you.

There are several solutions to this:

1. Live right near the school you want your kid to attend.
2. Live in a neighborhood where most of the schools are equally as good (yes, there are some areas like this in Seminole County)
3. Don't live on the outskirts of a "good" school district that is adjacent to a "not so good" school district.
4. Pay for private school.

Fighting your elected representatives usually doesn't work. Because (on average) for each kid who now has to go to the crappy school, there is a kid who gets to go to the good school. So, politically, it's a wash and the politicians don't have much control over it anyway. Some people get angry, some are happier. You might as well suck it up and move on, because this most likely is not a fight you are going to win.

PS: Believe me, I don't like school rezoning either - that's why when I bought my house I made sure that I liked the two elementary schools, two middle schools, and three high schools that might become my kid's future school. Yes, I have my preferences, but all of them are ok.
