Well I don't know what we are doing wrong, I too am on the budget plan, but my actual bill this month was !!!! 493.00 for a 1400 sq ft home. My dryer has been broke for 2 months, we shut the water heater off during the day. the thermostat is on 75-78, now it is on 82. I run the dishwasher 1-2 twice a day. I have called Progressive up to get an attitude from their employee who said THEY don't make mistakes, to hire an electrician. My bill went up 134.00 in ONE month, the prior 3 months, we were 12.00, 5.00, 88.00 less than last year at this time. I am actually sick because I don't have the funds to pay and they won't help.
So sick and tired

Wow. Here I was feeling bad about my bill. It was $360 for a 2600 square foot house. That's the highest it's ever been though.

But it drops significantly. From October to early May, it runs about $120 a month.

I think you definately have something wrong with your meter or something. $493.00 is outrageous! Have someone come over and check your house ASAP!

just enrolled in budget billing, mine is $230 average. Last bill was $278 for 2400sq feet.
But I keep it between 78 & 79 and we don't turn it on at night....I get sick from the cold air!
we also put on tint on the most exposed windows. It does help a lot.
If you have a pool though...........that pump is increasing your bill to no end!
Your fridge, water heater and air conditioner are the main electric enemies...maybe there is something wrong with your water heater.....a dryer will not do this type of damage.

Just got mine. It was the most I've ever paid $284 for a 1600 sq ft home. The cost of electricity has gone up drastically! I keep my thermostat on 78 all the time.

It's ridiculous when your electric bill is equal to or more than a weeks pay!

I live downtown in an 1800sq ft home built in the 50s. My electric/water/waste bill (they are combined downtown) was $417. $360 of that was electricity. The worst part is the temp rarely goes below 78 degrees in my house. I also know that downtown is a bit higher for most everyone.

That is insanity, 1400 sq.ft. = 493.00!!

Either something is wrong mechanically or you have no insulation in your house. Call progessive and speak with a supervisor, don't take no for an answer!!

Thank you for you suggestions, My husband is putting in a digital thermostat, we do not have a pool, we also have the tinted window shields on most of the windows, but I keep it like a dark den in the house with the vertical blinds closed at all times. My children have been amazing shutting the lights off when they leave a room, making sure doors are shut.

when I talked to Progressive Energy and talked to the man with the attitude he really made me feel that I was stupid. And I REALLY didn't appreciate the tone, I was asking for help and he had none to offer, except PAY THE BILL!!! or get shut off. I do not have paying a bill with services I receive, if I DID receive a FAIR BILL.

So I will take your advice a ask to speak with a supervisor, I am not shy, so I hope I can get some help. thank you

Wink I wish

How about $125 per month for 1400 sq ft new home with no a/c in Maine and $600 per month in winter for heat.
One more reason to move south.
