Hi All-

My husband and I are going to be moving to Altamonte Springs, FL the end of this month.

I don't know the area yet (obviously) so I was wondering if you guys could help me out. I am looking for a discount home furnishings store. I would get the stuff I need from NJ and take with me when I am moving, but I don't have an idea of what I want- color schemes, size etc.

I am from NJ and we have a couple of stores here that would be considered discount stores.
Here we have JEMBRO and BEYOND HOME & FURNITURE to name a few- they have a wonderful selection of things for your home like rugs, curtains, bath mats, shower curtains, etc.
Not sure if anyone is familiar with either of these stores to get an idea of what I am looking for.
Times are hard & who doesn't love a bargain, right?????

Thanks guys for any help you can provide!

Beall's (pronounced Bell's) is a local department store that has some good deals on home accessories with "Florida-style" if that's appealing to you. I've found some good deals and enjoy shopping there.

Bealls Florida: For the Home, Home Decor, Cookware, Flatware, Utensils, Dinnerware, Kitchenware, Cutlery, Kitchen Equipment, Tervis Tumbler

Seriously, Craigslist is the best option. There's also a Rooms To Go Outlet in Altamonte Springs. I don't care for their furniture. Sticks and Stuff is another. There's one in Sanford. The flea market sells cheap new furniture. (Flea World in Sanford) Big Lots as well.

In addition to what everyone else has said I would recommend Rooms To Go Outlet (scratch and dented minor damage goods from rooms to go). It's basically in Altamonte on 436 right across the railroad tracks heading east. Also if you go west on 436 to Apopka, you can find a furniture direct dealer right past the 429. Than there is always Fleamasters in Sanford and some smaller operations along west Colonial drive (I will warn you, not the greatest part of town, go during the day). I would also try discount stores such as Big Lots and clearance items at American Signature. Many of the used office furniture stores also have residential items at a very good price. Finally is Habitat for Humanities retail centers. You should not feel bad using this place at all, basically donors (usually affluent and well off) donate their furniture to Habitat for Humanities. The items are than sold to the general public to help support Habitat for Humanities. I have found great deals at these places. PM for more specific details.

Agreed! There are alot of people that still think that places like Goodwill and Habitat for Humanity are for "poor" people and that you're taking advantage of them if you buy things there. That couldn't be further from the truth. They exist to sell donated items at a reasonable price so that the proceeds can be funneled to support whatever cause they represent.

Not at all! They have decent furniture and they even post on Craigslist. If you go in those stores today, they are packed. I'm glad you wrote this so people understand what they do. It's not meant for just poor people at all.

How about IKEA! Also, we bought inexpensive furniture from Pier One when they have their sales.
