while we talked about moving to Florida for the past 4 years, we've decided to short term it for awhile. I've looked at various websites for short term rental info but almost all is 55+ communities. We have a 9 year old son and while my husband is 55+, I am not.
We would greatly appreciate any suggestions or websites with rental information. I wonder to if a long term housing hotel wouldn't work?
We'd want to come for all of January and Feb. just to start, or possible just one month or the other. We promise not to back in to anyone , or do 45 in the fast lane.
If you think you have any good information to offer us, please reply or private message.
Thank you.

How are you going to be able to do that with a 9 year old unless you home school? Also, do you have to find work? Do you want to be in a specific area? Do you want a house, extended stay or condo? Price range? We need a little more info to help out.
Sorry, yes, we homeschool. No, we are not looking for work. Area either near Disney or Ocean (of course) I would prefer first a gated condo community with pool. second choice would be an extended stay hotel of some sort, third would be a private home. I've just read so many negative things on here about snow birds. I really want a break from the snow, get a longer term feel for Florida other than just a one or two week vacation. I don't want to spend a month or two in florida sitting in my winter coat in the 60s. My son and I love the water, hubby is an avid golfer. We are 'church' types ha ha, we don't drink or smoke or any of that tom foolery. Price range I'm sure I"m dreaming at 700 to 1200 a month, but there has to be something out there. I'd even be willing to live in with a senior citizen to care for them for a couple months. (Former LPN)
Willing to have a realtor contact me privately. There must be something down there!

OK, that helps. To me, being a snowbird is a dream of mine. I hear you on the snow, that's why I moved here. Don't listen to the negative feedback. There are condos in your price range. Now when you say Disney, I wouldn't suggest to stay right by it. IMHO, you won't be able to get a feel of the area that way. You can be close though, maybe 30 or so minutes away. The traffic is crazy and it will be less expensive as well. I can recommend some month to month condos in Lake Mary if you like. Otherwise, maybe others can chime in.
Living by the beach is very nice as well. If you chose to live by the beach, I'd chose New Smyrna or Daytona Beach Shores. There are many condos there but I don't know any specific. I'd definately check Craigslist. Maybe you can split the time up.
wouldn't living closer to disney mean less traffic time coming and going?
splitting the time is a good idea, except for possible double deposits?
can you recommend on here (or in PM) specific names of condo places?
or links to websites?
When I google info., all the sites come up seem to be one site under lots of different names. They all look cheesy...
how far south does one have to go to get decent weather for Jan and Feb?
thanks for your replies.
as for the neg. it's hard to avoid... so many people just bash Florida, but I found my city on here, a very small one, but all negative, sadly mostly what is said is true.

You are going to have negative comments and positive ones no matter where you go. There are plenty areas that are nice here. Read the threads on here and they will lead you in the right direction. As for splitting the time between here and the beach, I was thinking one month here and one month there.
As for staying so close to the parks, yes you can avoid some traffic if you are closer. If you travel to the parks and avoid rush hour, it will be no biggie if you are further. It takes me about 40 minutes to get there, straight down I4. How many times do you think you'll be at the parks anyhow?
If you want decent weather in the winter, you really should stick to FL. Even in Jacksonville, which is more north, gets colder than here. It's not uncommon for them to get alot of 20's there. It even gets that cold here on occasion. Although, it warms up very nicely in the day to the mid 50's-70's.
Some of the condos by me are called Regency Park at Lake Mary and Notting Hill. Look on Craigslist and you will see them. Even if they are offered at a 1 yr lease, you can ask for seasonal of month to month. I know b/c my daughter did that and I have friends who've done the same.
You've been so helpful... I looked at some areas you mentioned and all I seem to find are over 55 senior communities, perhaps you can pm me some links?
could you recommend a realtor?
I'm really torn about the parks, I would like to spend time there, but that will be costly, but the beach is free. We'd really just like to relax, even at Disney instead of the 'squeeze everything into one day' routine.
Also, since we are seriously considering relocating there, we'd like time to visit different areas, etc.
if you look at rentals they're reasonable, but vacation rentals are through the roof. I can't believe in today's economy that rental homes are still going for as much as people advertise. I did place an ad on craigs list and either it was denied or no one responded at all.
