Some of the stores going in the new shopping area:

To date we (Boyd Development) have the following;
McDonalds – Broke Ground last week...opening in October.
Chase Bank and Fifth Third Banks – Staring construction very soon.
7-11 – starting construction next month.
Medical Building
Free Standing Italian Restaurant
Publix and Publix Liquor Store

Leasable space:
Gastropub (Bar & Grill)
French Café (Pastry, Crepes, Coffee, Breakfast, Lunch & Desserts
Dentist
Nail Salon and Spa
Aveda Hair Salon
Optometrist
Real Estate Office (Pending LOI)
Dermatologist
Dry Cleaner

I guess Leasable Space means 'hope to have these filled', so I suppose they will stay empty for awhile!
I'm also surmising 7-11 will have gasoline pumps.
McD's is the big negative for me at this point. Not a fan.

I am shocked that they are still building. This is the area called Independence or something, right?

This is to the east of Independence. There are 2 new home communities being built within a mile of this shopping center. This center will serve all the communities from Chase Rd (south of Windermere proper), Altis Apartments, Keene's Point, Lakeside Villages, all of the Overstreet homes, etc. Currently it is a big sprawling area with no conveniences, convenient!

Is there really a need for a Publix 3 miles down the road from the Summerport location? It seems most local businesses are struggling to survive and lease space is still vacant everywhere. I surmise they'll be left vacant there for a while as well. It'd be nice to have a gas station there rather than going up to Winter Garden Village for a cheaper alternative.

Didn't Winn Dixie in south WG close about 5 years ago? I know Winn Dixie had problems, but no one ever shopped at that store anyways.

With the number of homes currently built and proposed in the Horizon West area you'll have a few more Publix on the way.

After all if they don't build another chain will.

Hope this helps,

Leasable space means they will be renting out of the buildings you see being constructed right now. The parcels that are available would be offered to companies who want to build their own structures, like the Italian restaurant.

My guess is that the bar and grille and the french cafe are a go along with the others...they wouldn't be that specific in the marketing. Plus in this economy they will take what they can get.

Having said that, this area is a hot area for realesate. Noone wants the foreclosures in summerport so the new construction is booming. Also, there is another shopping center being built on 535 where it turns north in front of the summport publix. I believe these retail areas will be okay since people like me get sick of driving all the way to the WG village or Sand lake.

Is the gas station still going in? I drive through the center every morning and can't seem to see where they would be putting it in??

I believe the gas station is still a go. The sign for the 7-11 store went up last week and could be the gasoline vendor.

Also My French Cafe is opening at the end of April. They don't have a website but they are on facecrack as My French Cafe.INC

Chase Bank is right next to Publix. Publix Liquor store is scheduled to open in March.
