Question Realistic opinion of Orlando and area

Hi,

I will be moving to Orlando with my husband as soon as my husband is done with law school here in Chicago (in about a year). I have been reading some negative things and somewhat scary about Orlando in different threats. When I say Orlando I mean downtown and the different areas since I am not familiar with the areas. I lived in Miami up to 2 years ago and I don’t know how different Miami is from Orlando. When I lived in Miami, Orlando always seemed nicer, cleaner and a better place for starting families. I guess I just want a fair comparison or a realistic view of “Orlando”.

When we move down there we will be both professionals (my husband a lawyer and me an HR professional with a masters degree). We are looking to rent for the first 6 months, so I can get a better idea of the areas and where we want to purchase. Understanding that there is good and not so good in EVERY city, please advice me of what are the most desirable areas to live (gated communities is a plus). Plus and cons about the city would be a plus. Also, if you could choose between Orlando and Tampa which would you choose? Please remember that I lived in Miami, so I am veeery familiar with FL traffic.

Thank you all for your time.
