It happens. At least you're doing something about it and planning a move out.

For those who say, change your attitude, I say baloney. If you have to do a number on yourself and change your way of thinking in order to tolerate your surroundings then this is called 'compromising yourself' and I suggest moving from the area. You should never have to twist yourself up in a rubber-band ball, and align your way of thinking, or change your values just so you can get out of bed every day. MOVE!

If you add up all the "zips" that say Orlando what you get is 235K. That's it.

The 4000 square miles that's somehow referred to as the metro area has a bit over 2 million. It has to be the most misleading US Census MSA (Metro Statistical Area) out there. A prime example of how ridiculous is how the Raleigh-Durham metro is set up. It was split in 2003 despite the fact Raleigh and Durham boundaries nearly meet in a couple of areas and are no more than 30 miles apart. The area acts as one entity with a major research park and international airport shared by both right in between. Orlando is Orlando, it isn't a necessity for city residents to drive out of the city limits other than to WDW.

What about all the zips that are unincorporated Orange County but still say Orlando, FL 328... as the address? What I was saying is if you took all the zips that say Orlando, FL on them unincorporated or not, "Orlando, FL" has a much higher population

And some zips have both Orlando proper AND unincorporated Orange County in them

Unincorpoated zips in Orlando, FL. 32809, 32817, 32818, 32819, 32820, 32821, 32822, 32824, 32825, 32826, 32827, 32828, 32829, 32831, 32832, 32833, 32834, 32836, 32837, 32839

Now some of those zips do have Orlando city limits in them, other are unincorporated completely. As I said if you took EVERY "Orlando, FL" zip code from 32801-32839 unincorporated or not, you would get close to a million in population

Absolutely. You have to fit to the area, not make the area fit to you.

Getting away from a place that you hold in such disdain is a must. The problems, mentally and physically, that can happen to you if you are subjected to such stress on a day to day basis, are simply not worth it.

Sigh.

The city of Orlando according to the 2010 US Census had a population of 238,300 making Orlando the 79th largest city in the United States.

Pretty much any city can start adding numbers by saying "well if you add this, that or so and so" we'd be bigger and have x-many more residents and spread clear out to yonder but the reality is what it is.

Keep telling yourself Kyle that Raleigh is the bigger city/metro based on City Proper population, rather than looking at the Urban Area population which shows a more accurate picture of an area's "city-ness", "density", and "true size."

Orlando's Continuous Urban Area Pop 1,157,431

Raleigh's Continuous Urban Area Pop 541,527

^^^ You seem convinced that Orlando is some kind of big dynamo-like city and if you want to believe in that go right ahead. In reality, numbers and facts speak otherwise.

It has worldwide recognition though. I bet if you did a survey around the world and country, more people would recognize Orlando than raleigh/durham

No I do not think it's some big huge mind blowing city, but rather was proving with numbers (IN PROPER CONTEXT) that Orlando is bigger than Raleigh. So yes numbers and facts may prove that metro Orlando is no more than an excellent mid-sized city, but they also prove Orlando>Raleigh!
