Just wondering how is jobs? We check online for jobs and it seems they have quite a few openings. But is it an area where you need to know people to get in? How long does it usually take for people to receive a job after applying. I know most people think it is just the chance of luck. But I am seriously wondering what is a ranking of actually getting a job in Orlando, easy? hard?

Stating your career field would help.

This is one of the most difficult job markets in the country right now. Yes, there are jobs listed but don't count on a phone call or an interview after submitting your resume. There are many applicants per opening and most typically the least qualified/least experienced (or close) usually gets the job. Don't believe me? Start paying attention to who you're dealing with in your encounters with employees of various businesses in the area. Unmotivated and low-skilled equals lower pay from the employer. In terms of knowing people, I would say it definitely helps.

I have a Master's degree and 11 years of really good experience as a librarian and have been applying since July when we moved here. Of about 50 applications, I've had 4 interviews and no job offers. It is not easy, but if you're willing to take a min. wage job it should be no problem.

My wife was transferred to the Lake Mary area, so I quit my job to follow her here. I found a job in a call center soon after applying. It's not the type of work that I have experience in, but it pays much better than the average job here in the Orlando area, and once you are experienced you could write your ticket to other positions anywhere around town, or you could actually work from home.

You need to worry about the job market for MMI graduates. How does $8/hr sound? How much are you paying for that degree? I speak from personal experience - my husband graduated from there years ago.
