Ann, as others have said, there are plenty of great areas to live in Orlando and the surrounding areas. There are plenty of opportunities here, service industry or otherwise. My two 20 something daughters moved here in January and had a job and friends the first week they were here. As servers, they make more money than me in one week (I'm in a administrative role) so not all service industry jobs pay crap. Also, there is TONS of things to do as far as nightlife here in Orlando. They have their favorite pubs, they go to the House of Blues and Hard Rock for concerts, just to name a few. It's unbelievable how much fun you can have here as a 20 something. You could spend years trying out all the different restaurants here as well.

Advice for job searching for an administrative position... sign up with temp agencies while you look on your own. Chances are you'll be placed very quickly. Most companies are hiring this way. I went this route and ended up being hired by one of the largest employers in the Orlando area. PM me if you'd like more information.

I'd also like to remind people that personal opinions are just that...even mine. What people experience in their life doesn't pertain to be "law" for everyone around Orlando. It's only their personal experience so don't let that be the end all of your decision to move here. Be smart, do your research and you'll be fine. That's what we did before we move here and it's been 3 years of having fun, enjoying the beach areas, making weekend trips around the state, not having my house robbed, being mugged or having a firearm pointed at me.

Good luck on your move!

I am a recent grad myself, well not too recent, almost 2 years ago, looking to move to Orlando, any tips? I majored in Communication and minored in Spanish, but I am having no luck in S. FL. I have 2 friends who are in the area and they love it. What can you say about the young professional crowd? Something Miami truly lacks.

For admin. jobs go to Office Team temp. agency to get a job. My daughter, in her early 20's, had a heck of a time finding a job last year when we moved here from Michigan in an office until she got in touch with the temp agency. They had her working almost right away, now she did do a couple of temp jobs, a week here and 3 weeks there, but they did get her into a temp to hire position and they kept her on and she loves it.
She said she would do that again if she had to find another job due to she could try out the job before she really committed to the company. One note she did do a couple of non admin. jobs, thru the temp agency, such as working at the convention center signing in guest for meetings but it paid well and she met a few friends she still keeps in contact with. The temp agency "pre screens" you so when they send you to an interview you will have the advantage over the "walk in the door" interviews.

Good luck Ann156 - based on what you posted, you might be okay. Take heed though to what others are saying and make sure you have that jobby in hand. Also - there are growing industries in Orlando but remember your not the only one wanting to move here and its an employers market, always has been and always will be.

Rent don't buy though, have met many a disillusioned person whom came to Orlando only to turn around and ship right back out 2 years later. Nice place to live though.....if you don't like money.

There are plenty of jobs? Are they good jobs or "Can I take your order?" type jobs? I have been trying and trying and have yet to get a good job in my field down here.

You mean "WINTER GARBAGE" The place is a dump and half of it around plant street is one of the worst crime areas in the county. It also borders, Pine Hills (CRIME HILLS). You think you have problems in your life now, honey they are going to get 1000 times worse.
