They are doing site work on the NW corner of Orange and Colonial. ANy idea what is planned there? A skyscraper I hope??? There are still far too many grass laden and surface lots in DT.

No skyscraper. It's going to be a luxury apartment complex called "Steel House", featuring mostly 1-bedroom apartments. Here is a recent article:

Atlanta developer starts work on $40M downtown apartments - Orlando Business Journal

As for the grass-laden lots, at least one large one will be developed...next to the Lynx central station across from the court house. It will be a hotel/retail complex, but unfortunately it's going to be Mediterranean looking which IMO doesn't fit downtown Orlando.

Downtown development: Central Station would bring $200 million in downtown development - OrlandoSentinel.com

IMO one of the coolest looking developments will be the re-development of the former OUC building into a Starwood 'Aloft' brand hotel. What they have planned for a chic patio area in front of the building looks really cool. There were renderings in the paper, but I can't find them on Orlando Sentinel's site.

Really don't see why they are building anything here. Have you seen all the foreclosures alone in Metrowest?

Those were condo busts for the most part. Orlando's rental market is one of the hottest in the country right now according to a recent article in the paper. This isn't the only new luxury apartment building in the works. There will also be one right up the street just north of the building where the Citrus restaurant is.

I'm really excited for both of these projects. Once completed there will be continuous development from Lake Ivanhoe all the way down along the west side of Orange Ave. Hopefully the lots on the east side of Orange get filled in soon, from what I hear the plans are already in the works for another apartment complex and commercial office building. I kind of like the idea of the north side of downtown being more dense residential. If and when they extend the Lymmo to this area it will be very desirable place to live for young people working downtown. I'm excited about how downtown is coming together lately.
