Question Osceola County School for the Arts

I am moving to the Orlando area in October. I have done a great deal of research on schools in the area. It looks like there are some that are great and not so great. My question is can anyone tell me anything about The Osceola School for the Arts? It looks fantastic. How hard is it to be accepted at this school? I was told that you must be a resident of Osceola County to attend, interview and write an essay. From what I have seen this school would be just what my 14 yr old daughter is needing. We have similar schools but they are very difficult to get into.

I have heard great things about it to. It is the only "A" High School in the county and the kids are really well behaved and the teachers are great as well. You do have to "audition" to get in and from what I have seen it is not that hard to get in especially if you make good grades. It is also mandatory to live in Osceola County unless a parent works for the school system.

One word of warning though, students miss out on a lot of the high school "experience", meaning sports and a lack of a lot of extra-curriculars that are available in other schools. This isn't such a bad thing when you think about all the other things they avoid by attending this school and not a regular high school like fights and the growing gang problem in our high schools. However, I do not know how colleges feel about a school like this and would worry about the lack of clubs and sports that college admissions really like seeing on applications. Overall, I think it is one of the best High Schools in Central Florida and would highly recommend checking it out in person and talking to the administration and teachers.

Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.

Hello,
My name is Leonardo and I am an alumni from Osceola County School for the Arts ( or as we all call it OCSA ) I just made an account to this website just to reply to you so you can see how my feelings toward this school is , this school is the best school any student can go to, and i say this from experience. I went to the school as a music major studied there for my whole high school career and got my Fine & Performing Arts Endorsement as an instrumental major. This school as the person at top of me said, may be "different" from other high schools, but let me tell you that different is great. Its not a big school, I graduated in a senior class of 118 people, but it is 6th grade through 12th, but if you are worried about your child getting picked on, DON'T, this school is full of friendly students with a passion to learn, and love what they are doing and show an amount of dedication to their arts that is unseen anywhere else. Out of the 4 high school years I had attended i had not seen or heard of one single fight in the school. Colleges love our school because they are an A school, and we have been a Straight A school since the moment we opened 6 years ago, no other school in the county of Florida can say that, we also learn many necessary things for life and we are behaved beyond all others, I belonged to the Jazz band in our school and let me tell you that the time I spent with them was an unforgettable experience they are my family and always will be, I grew with them and they grew in my heart, together as a family we have won many awards such as best bands in show, superior ratings in state competitions and many MANY other. In this school you learn to love your art like no other, and you learn to appreciate the finer things in life, and learn many others form of art, but most of all you learn leadership skills. The skill to get a group of people and lead w/ your heart and brain, this school has made me love my art. I f you want your child to be in one of the best schools in central Florida then get her there. I promise you, you wont regret it. I never will

I hope this has helped you, and i wish the best for your daughter =]

Here is there website: The Osceola County School for the Arts (OCSA) 3151 N. Orange Blossom Trail, Kissimmee FL 34744
Look at their application to get more info on the audition process. From what I got out of it you have to be in 9th or higher to audition for voice. 8th graders or higher can audition for drama with a monologue and 6th and 7th can only audition for instrumental and dance.
Hope this helps!

PS- I think it is pretty easy to get in if you have a moderate amount of talent. I haven't meet anyone who didn't get in actually.

My son has been there since 6th grade as a dnace major and has loved every minute. As for missing out on the sports, he has not. He has more experiences from this school than any other. He has performed on National TV and has danced for some really well known artists. My son is graduating this year and he has been offered many opportunites to several colleges. As well as a slew of scholarships. We moved to this county in order for him to start in the 6th grade when it opened. It is an "A" school and has been from the start.
