avalon park --- any problem areas? (Orlando, Andover: relocate, hoa, apartments)

Yeah, I'm moving back to Winter Park. It's the only area I know that cracks down fast on crime and is also very beautiful. Avalon Park is a joke. Some little kid threw a gang sign at me when I was driving down the street yesterday, so I pulled over and asked him who or what he thought he was. He ran off...kid was like 8 years old. Showed me that there is a small gang presence influencing little kids like this one.

The Wal Mart up there is garbage too. No way is it worth the drive to come home to a place that is RAPIDLY going down the tubes. I am done with the East side of Orlando..I think to live in this city, you have to live where people have a lot of money or you are going to deal with this element everywhere. If it sounds elitist, I don't care. I have lived here over 20 years and I want to live in peace. Only place for that is Heathrow, Winter Park or Windemere (the good part). Or you can overspend for a condo on Eola, if you don't mind bums.

Ther service sucks (1 register open..10 people in line type of stuff)the people who shop there. a lot do not live there and come in from sketchy areas. Wait until those section 8 apts open up...it will be like the WalMart on Michigan near the airport...that's the worst experience in Orlando.

I think Walmart just has a gravitational pull for these kind of people. We have a Walmart in Cooper City, which could be considered as Stepford as it gets (think Oviedo times 10). It's surrounded by Stepford on all bordering areas too (areas tend to be more consistent here than O-Town). But go in the walmart, and oh man, your in the ghetto! I avoid "Wal fart" like the plague no matter where I am.

This is also a valid point.

The worst Wal Mart in Orlando is the airport one. Living near the airport (lake nona excluded) is basically like sayiing "I hate myself, and I want my life to suck as badly as possible."

But all Wal marts suck. Crimes happen right in the parking lots..the employees are all complete idiots, and there is simply no one with the mental capacity to help you out if you happen to get jumped.

As known in business it's all about "location, location, location". Walmarts are like Rollerderby and Wrestling. Situated and timed so that they take advantage of the Middle-low to lower classes in such a way as to drain their checks on contact.

The reality of this is pretty simple, Walmart headquarters is Arkansas.... hmmm lowest ranked schools in the country are in...??? Yes Arkansas, home of Slick Willy and other individuals that portray the truest definition of brain dead.

Walmart is a complete magnet for the downtrodden...every one of them. It has also been shown that if you take an afluent area and find there is a WalMart going in you had better recheck your own demographics because Walmart knows something about the area you don't.

Which stats, the crime? The wal fart has been there for years. I remember the community being just as stepford yet that wal-mart being just as trashy for years. I think the increase in crime is just typical flux, seeing that it went up and down, up and down. This has nothing to do with the thread though, LOL! Well, it kind of does, just citing an example of the "magnet" effect that may be happening in Avalon Park.

We now have a strong Neighborhood WAtch in AValon which is making a big difference and have extra patrols and off duties we'll be fine. And there are NO low income apt.'s in Avalon or area the new apt.'s by colonial are high end - all just rumor thanks! Great place to live!

Thanks for the input. Politicians we don't need. Glad the watch is helping maybe I'll see fewer copters overhead. As for the low income - where do you come from? the apt's at avalon pk blvd and colonial are Section 8!! It has been multiply verified including building officials.


and it's not all that great a place to live. Aside from the building racial tension, your neighbor is a power plant and once Independence Way opens WalMart will be on it. Aside from the trivial notations, we have also observed significant issues in the area. Perhaps the parents shoul actually start being parents!! These community programs (YMCA, Karate, etc) are NOT babysitting services! We are finding the weakest link in Avalon/Waterford area to be weak parenting. You fill in the blanks from there.
