I work at UCF and it takes me 20 minutes to get to work even with the so called horendous traffic. Guys, worked in NYC for 15 years. Sometimes I took a train, bus and sometimes I drove in. It took me 45 minutes - 2 hours to travel 5-10 miles ( depending where I lived at the time ). My car was keyed, borken into or just plain vandalized every few months. We also had that little event where some crazy ARABS crashed a couple of planes into the City.
Lastly...I read a comment about section 8 housing earlier. I am surprised by the simpletons that appear to be native to the Orlando area or transplants from the mid west or "deep south". I own several building which have some section 8 tenants. I have NEVER had a problem with a section 8 tenant. I have been to court 5 times to kick out regular tenants. And by the way, section 8 tenant have NO SPECIAL RIGHTS when it comes to an eviction process. If they don't have the rent they are locked out just like anybody else.
I do miss the quality of intellect commonly found in my NYC/NJ colleagues compared to this area. The good news is there are many people from the NE that have moved to teh area and frankly add great value to the culture. I am hopeful this area will continue to mature and develop into an even healthier community as time goes by. I attended Columbia, worked at places like Goldman Sachs, Mckinsey & Co, ING and other fortuen 500 type of firms. I miss that...but I don't miss working 24/7.

Take your elitist attitude back to where you came from. You're the reason why native Floridians don't like so many of those from the northeast - you move down here and do nothing but complain about how much better it is up there. Newsflash - there are plenty of southerners and midwesterners far more sophisticated, educated, and intelligent than you.

Re: this "Section 8 building" people keep mentioning--Section 8 is case by case arrangement between the tenant/landlord/section 8 agency. I don't believe an entire building can be built and designated "Section 8" use, although the building owner can choose to accept S8 tenants, and end up with a lot of them. It sounds like this is either government run public housing, or just a not so nice building. Maybe someone should find out what this building really is before getting all worked up about it.

I don't think it was elitest, just merely rough and not politically correct. As for the masses of people hunkered down in this state there are differences. Overall the key isn't educational level, it is social level. As we've seen college professors do some pretty stupid things over the years.
I'm not going to point fingers buy listing my observations, however what I will say is there is a overly fair amount of people in the area that require additional education specifically in the area of common sense, driver's ed, social behaviors to name a few that really stand out.
With that said - note - that doesn't solely mean or imply Native Floridans, otherwise I might have used the term 'Crackers' (LMAO take a joke will you?) but I didn't. Keep in mind that sometimes people need to vent on here, this area is frustrating for a lot of people, and not for others. So they just may lay down an occasional personal/ethnic/social zinger - oh well! Take it in stride. I've been on here needing to vent, big deal! You can't tell me that you expect people to be 200% super angelic nice 200% of the time! That just isn't real.
What is real is this - people get upset, people have the right to speak their mind, but Americans - in general - are whipped. Can not take any bad or rough news, everything had better be overly poitically correct nicey-nice else they just might get upset that someone was mean to them.
Get real people.

I would hope not - I see stupidity all the time, and trust me, it's not the "crackers." Look at the incidents in Waterford Lakes and Avalon Pk alone - look at what crimes have taken place and see who the suspect was. Crackers? Think again.

Just a friendly reminder of or terms of service regarding staying on topic and personal attacks:
"Be civil, no personal attacks, flaming, or insults. We may attack ideas (politely) but we do not attack the speaker of the idea. Be careful with your words, there is a point where being direct crosses a line into blunt, in-your-face hostility. Please, report bad posts instead of engaging in flame wars on the boards. Insulting another member or a moderator will not be tolerated anywhere on this website. This includes Direct Messages and Reputation Comments.
If you disagree with something, say so, but explain WHY.
Stay on topic. Attempts to hi-jack threads by switching topics or going off topic will be deleted and infractions issued. This is not a chat room - when people hi-jack threads by posting messages that are of interest to only few people, the threads often stop being useful discussions of initial topics."
Those posters who can not follow these rules will be infracted and this thread will be closed.
Thank you

Bithlo is one of the lowest white trash areas in the United States, full of inbreds and crime. Avalon Park is a few miles from there, nothing else needs to be said.

Central Florida has far less intellect than other areas of the state for the simple reason that it doesn't take an Einstein to figure out that the only nice thing about Florida is the beach where you get an ocean breeze that makes the forever summers tolerable. The brighter individuals from the Northeast figured that one out and moved to coastal cities. That left, Puerto Ricans, Red necks, politically corrupt good old boys, and a few confused misguided others with the state's interior. That's why you see things like tolls ever 100 feet, architectural disastor's, no set back laws and other "assets" of central florida.

Wow, did you come up with that theory all by yourself? Wouldn't Einstein be proud.
P.S. There's an "e" in disaster.

There's also no " ' " in disasters...and "red necks" is one word.
"The brighter individuals from the Northeast" --- gotta love it.
