Smile Orlando Apartment Complex recommendations?

I have decided to move to orlando and I have friends in Maitland so I'll be going down around the first of Oct to find a place to rent. Apartmentratings.com seems to be filled with contradictory comments and it's hard to get an idea of neighborhoods since Orlando is so large. So, does anyone have any specific apartment buildings/complexes that they'd recommend? I'd love to hear from someone who can say that they lived, or currently live somewhere great in the Orlando area...

I am single, 29, with no kids and I work from home so I don't have any real restrictions on what I'm looking for, just a safe decent place to live, and under $1000 a month.

Thanks

There's a glut of condos on the market right now, so you could try renting one of them. . .
you could try the Arbors in Maitland, also the Grande Reserve in Maitland (my step-daughter and her husband live there. I know they pay $1000/month for a 2 bed/2ba with a small bonus area off the living room. Good luck!

I lived in some apartments near the Altamonte Mall that were safe overall....i saw some guys fighting after a basketball game there once in there but really i had no problem with safety there in those specific apartments just had some lous azz neighbors though.......The Altamonte Mall area is pretty nice overall......however i did get robbed at gunpoint at the 7-11 off of douglas rd. and ..........i was walking to work at the mall one day from the apartments and some guy stopped his car and asked me in a serious way...if i wanted a bj.....and he didnt laugh or anything....and i am a guy......he was wearing some bottled glasses and had a suit on....he looked like a child predator....but anyways i scared him away by telling him i would beat his you know what.....then there was a murder in the apartments down the street and i almost fought some guy after he came close to hitting me and my mother while i was walking across the street.....he made a u-turn after i flicked him off (because my mothers ankle was soar and the guy was speeding as we were already crossing) the guy got out of the car and i told him he was lucky that i didnt beat his azz for almost hitting us.....then he said "i know where you work" and he said youll see me around again........other than some stuff like that the area is safe overall....unless you are living out in Windemere, or some other rich areas you will hear of some stories like mine in the Orlando area

I lived in Altamonte Springs near the mall right next to a beautiful lake and park (Cranes Roost). They are now called Altamira Place Apartment Homes Apartments. Here is a link: Altamira Place Apartment Homes Apartments for Rent in Altamonte Springs, FL - UDR

It is gated and a really quiet and safe complex. The prices are not that bad either. Ranging from $750 - $1150.

BTW, have you thought about renting a home? The prices are amazing right now and you can find a new home in a safe area for an equivalent amount of money as most apartments.

Hope this helps!

On the flip side....you say they are gated......i lived there for 2 years and the gates were never working except for when they had "Red Hot and Boom " on 4th of July...and i drove by there again the other day and the gates were wide open again......it is generally a safe area though
