Growing up here I'll be first to admitt Orlando was and in some ways still is like this:
East Side : White People
West Side : Black People
South of Downtown : Hispanic
Generally thats how it has always been until the 2000's. Black people now live on the east side as well as white people even living in Pine Hills and Texas Ave. What I like about living in South Orlando is I always here a different language being spoken (In Addition to English) I love the Indian Stores or Cuban Sandwhiches at the corner store that I can't get in West Orlando or North of Orlando. I love the fact You can get CHinese Food, Japaneese, Semi-Fine Dining-, 24 Fast Food, 24 Hour Wal marts, 3 Malls With Variety of Shoppign and DIning, Etc. I love all of that with the Mexicans, Haitians, Ricans, Cubans, Blacks, Whites,Asians And Even Some Others. but thats just here in Southern Orange County. The rest of the county is undesirable to me.
Wow. I get it now. I still assumed that citie has so many people coming and going they are not sure who's who either.
I hope you are just being sarcastic and not lacking in math skills.
I'm not. Are you? You surely don't think that after two rolls of six sided dice you had a 2/6 (33%) chance of hitting your number in one of those rolls, do you? Because you have a 1-(0.83*0.83) = 31% chance. (google is your friend) Edit: Did your work for you - http://www.edcollins.com/backgammon/diceprob.htm
I'm pointing out that if a person had a 12% chance of something bad happening per year, by the 17th year they would have an 89% chance of it happening in that time period.

Math is sound. Go learn.
The 17th year will not be 11%, it will still be 88%. It is not an accumulated number. The chances do not depend on the previous year, jsut as the dice roll does not depend on the previous roll.

True. But if you live somewhere for two years, there are two years worth of your life. If you were robbed last year, but not this year, you might still care about it. Thus, the past is included.
Read it again. By the 17th year, the chance of you being robbed (or whatever) in the previous 17 years is 89%. Each year you have an 11%, and you were there 17 years.
Seriously, did you even read what I wrote? Did you look at the link?
I'm from Ohio and I spend 3 months with a friend and his family who are white. I was surprise when I visit the suburb of st cloud and found a huge diversity there. the commute may be a bit but I just want to share some good information. I get to takes walks for miles of the community without feeling uncomfortable. I can even enjoy a nice quiet view at night. The neighbors are very friendly and the convenience of shops are perfect for someone like me who don't like to travel far. I even had my own room but my friend and I are thinking of finding our own place. I had to return home but he is still with his family for a couple of weeks. the kids have many friends of different background.

As a black person in the metro, there are some place I won't venture into without another black person. St. Cloud is one of them, but other than that heard that place is very friendly regardless.
As someone else mentioned, I would consider renting first before buying. After living here for a couple of years, it seems as if Orlando has one nice neighborhood right next to poor neighborhoods.
First, I would look into neighborhoods that have nice schools for your children. I have a coworker whose sons are at Dr. Phillips High School and enjoy attending there. Other high schools I have heard good things about include Olympia, Edgewater, Winter Park, and Boone.
Then check into places that would offer a decent commute as traffic here can be horrible. Also consider if you have a significant other that works outside the home, consider where that person would be driving to everyday.
Grats on the promotion. We just concluded a lengthy search and settled in on Casselberry and Winter Springs area. Some of the best schools in the State and nestled reasonably close to downtown (this is from the perspective of someone who lives 40 miles from downtown Atlanta currently, so 10 miles is close)
You could do alot worse. I third or fourth the renting recommendation. Plenty of rentals available. We found a nice 3BR w/pool in a good school district for $1350. Rent for a little while, see what area you really like, then buy.
I have posted several times about the racism I experienced as a Bi-Racial young woman growing up in Eustis from 1990's - 2004. I posted about the Racism perpetuted on my father. As someone with roots? or history in Lake County, its imperative that you read the book "The Warmth of Other Suns"
I experienced it from the black folks and the white folks. I had a Black Boy beat me up in high school, because I had a baby from a white boy. seriously. I barely knew the dude, he just was like "Who the h*** do you think you are having a baby from a white boy" and preceded to punch me in the face.
When I was a little girl, my best friend in the world told me I couldn't come in her house because "her grandaddy dont allow n****** in the house"
St. Cloud is bad, and has a pretty violent history, as does Eustis/Mt.Dora and Especially Umatilla.
Someone always wants to stir up racism.
I agree many blacks are racists. I had a black cop in philadelphia stop me from going into a neighborhood which he said is black and that me being white I would get mugged, beaten or killed if I went in there. I was just visiting the place and taking photos.
And many whites, hispanics and asians are racist, but not as much as blacks as this person points out.
I knew a black girl that dated a white guy and she was harrassed by black males. And I knew a white military officer, he was a neighbor, that was married to a black girl and a black guy in the military tried to say he was a racist because the officer recommended he be kicked out. Really surprised the enlisted guy when he saw he was married to a black woman and the guy knew his bogus racism slur would be thrown out.
The current black mayor of Philadelphia tells it like it is and the racist black groups do not like it.
I have seen more black racists in this country than from any other group. My family consists of blacks, whites, asians and hispanics. I can tell you if you act nice people will treat you nice. If you are in a bad neighborhood then you are asking for trouble no matter what color or race you are.
The facts are that blacks commit more cirme against other blacks than any race commits against their own race. Even Bill Cosby has been trying to do something about this.
some of the killings and all if over drugs, soem over control of an area called truf or such and other is for just not liking someone that is different.
The constitution allows for someone not to like someone else and it is not racism. But the blacks want to call anything involving a black person with someone that is not black racism. People are getting tired of it.
Racism works both ways and if this keeps up in the near future there will be a group similar to the NAACP, but for the advancement and the rights of whites, hispanics and asians. The NAACP has become a very racist group.
Racism works both ways. And a lot of blacks are also racists. I could mention Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, the NBPP and others but I know people know who they are.
