Default 4 More Shootings in Sanford this week

Wednesday's Shooting in Sanford: Police: Pregnant woman, men hurt in drive-by shooting; 2nd... | www.wftv.com

Tuesdays Shooting in Sanford: Boy, 17, hospitalized after being shot in Sanford | www.wftv.com

Sanford is really going through it right now. Do you all think this will affect Sanford in even more of a negative way?

Well, it sure isn't raising property values.

It took me a while, but what I believe we're all getting bombarded with is known as an Availability Cascade.

Would that affect the entire city of Sanford, if the crime is generally in one area? Or is the property value some how tied into the Sanford PD?

Sanford has always had a troubled history and spotty reputation. The only difference is now it's being magnified.

How does it compare to Chicago?

In other words: Pffffffffffffffffffttttttttttttttttttt.

Are Jesse, Al, et al, in the middle of these? No? Didn't think so.

The funny thing is that the Trayvon Sanford and the Sanford where these shootings happened are 2 completely different places.

Oh really? Sanford is not that big of a town....There is only ONE Sanford in Central Florida that I know of, is there another place named Sanford in Florida??

That would certainly be news to me and I'm sure quite a few others....

Actually there are "two Sanfords" if one knew anything about the town.

There's the older section which is largely separated from the newer side by the 417. The city is very segregated for the most part with a vast majority of low income residents living in one area, east of the 417 mostly east of the 17-92 corridor. Once west of the 417, Sanford blends pretty seamlessly with Lake Mary and even Heathrow on the northwest side. To suggest living on one side of the street (in Sanford) is undesirable while living on the other side (Lake Mary or Heathrow) is not would be kind of a ridiculous argument. So yes, hanging one town's isolated problems over the entire city limits is a bit sensationalized.

For the record, myself (and prior my parents) have lived in the same house on the west side of Sanford since 1981. This neighborhood has not had any violent crimes and the only rare thefts have been a bike or lawn equipment taken from an open garage. The same holds true for the newer neighborhoods that have built up the couple square miles around here over the past several years.

That's all that needs to be said. As much as I abhor to say it... it's very true.
