We are looking at relocating to the Longwood area and I notice most homes are CBS. I have a contruction background but have only dealt with block construction in commercial applications. My big questions is how the interior finished. Is it standard to fur out the the interior of the outside wall with 3/4" boards or are they finished with a knockdown plaster directly on the blocks?

Sorry for a dumb question I googled it everyway I could and came up empty.

Also has anyone had the wall filled with injected foam?

Thanks,

Big Woozle

I live in a CBS home and most I believe (including mine) are built with 3/4" wood strips and insulation between the strips. If installing new drywall, it's easy to re-do the roll insulation. There's no way to fill the wall with injected foam as there typically isn't enough room to maneuver between the drywall, old insulation and wood strips. It's a good idea to foam around windows and doors where possible though.

They're different with different builders. My house has 2x4's behind the block with fiberglass insulation. A neighbor has metal studs with foam. If I was having a home built, I think I'd look into ICF.

HarryWho?-

You are correct, ICF is great. My dad deals with that stuff and I am amazed by it. If I ever build a house again, I will definitely go that route as well.

Default Thanks

Thanks, guys I like the concept of CBS but I have no experience with it growing up in Kentucky.

Most of houses I have looking at were built in the mid-70's. So I am guessing walls are insualted.

I am looking forward to learning a whole new skill set of remodling.

Thanks again
