Every hustler and liar is either here, has been here or on their way here is beyond words how bad this place is.
Wish someone had been as honest with me.

Default Clermont is Just Right

Hi -

I live in Clermont and love it, its really only about 35 miutes to the airport. We have a lot of people from Europe and the UK who have made Clermont their home because they are looking for a peaceful, nice pleace to live. Are you looking to buy or rent? I've done a lot of reasearch and can point you in the right direction if you are interested.

I have just moved to Orlando from England. I have also lived in Germany, Italy and Japan. Part of the problem with crime and Orlando is that any crime in a 50 mile raidus gets picked up on the news as being reported "From Orlando" (FOX, BBC) so Orlando is getting a bad rap. YES there is crime here, But it is not as bad as the news people make it seem. If you stay out of the bad areas, and you will know when you are in one, you will be fine. You referred to the Orlando International Airport, this is in the south / southeast part of the city so the Lake Nona area is a very good choice. What every you do thought is come here and look before you buy ANY house. With the market going the way it is now you can buy a very nice house for much less than the asking price. There are foreclosures going on every where. And the Orlando area is priced way over it's value right now. The house I WAS having bulit dropped 35K in the few months it was being built. When I found the same model with the exact same options for sale 2 blocks away for 70K less (105K total) and it was only 6 months old, I backed out of the sale. I now live in a house on the East side in a nice new develpoment that is bigger and I pay 1K less a month. The best thing to do is the rent for a year and look around to find the house you want to live in.

After living in Germany you will need to know about the drivers here They are not the same as the German drivers. They run red lights ALL the time and they will cross all the lanes to get to the middle or side so that they can turn. Passing on both the inside and outside lanes is legal and normal, in fact getting pass on both side at the same time is normal and means the car in front of you is going to slow. Most of the time they DO NOT use turn signals and when they do they forget to turn them off. I was sitting at a red light for at least 10 seconds when a car from behind me ran the light at a very high speed the odd thing was that a police car was just starting to cross the intersection but the cop did not go after the red light runner. It's just not the same here.

Default where in Orlando

Wodan,
I think there are many really nice areas of Orlando. I would really disagree about the Northwest as I view that as Apopka and there are so few communities there I like. There are nice parts in all directions - South - Hunters Creek, West - parts of Winter Garden, Windermere, Clermont, N, Maitland, Longwood, Lake Mary, Heathrow, East - Oviedo (parts), Winter Springs, waterford, stoneybrook and avalon park - and central, Baldwin Park, Winter Park. The ones in bold are good school areas. Several I would say are really nice for raising a family. Don't despair it isn't as bad as the image painted. Tell your agent what budget you want to stay in and this info and see what can be found. You will be pleasantly surprised. Good luck, and safe journey back to us.

Well in the last couple of day's my whife and I have started to thoroughly
look at the good & bad neighborhoods and also crime statistics.

I am shocked and a little sad by the results I have come up with for Orlando.
Orlando is all Tourism and this is exactly what it thrives on. Yet, the
politicians seem to do nothing about getting a grip on crime?

I live in Germany and I have talked to people of different nationalities that
say they have been to Orlando (Disney World) and discribe it as: "Orlando is
one big "dirt hole", "ghetto", "asylum seeking paradise".

Looking at my survey, it shows that you can forget:
- north east part of Orlando
- south east part of Orlando

and you even need to be careful when taking the south western part of
Orlando into consideration.

The only place where a young family can live and be a little bit on the safe
side is north west area of Orlando.

Now I am seriously thinking about choosing Tampa instead, but I need to do
some investigation on Tampa before making a final decision.

What do you guys think?
We love Orlando and have lived on the west side - too many tourist but LOVE S. East Orlando and lots of Germans living here - and we live in Avalon Park and thouroulghly enjoy it. I have NEVER heard anyone call Orlando those things and I travel heavily to Germany and all my relatives have been to Orlando and love it - wow have no idea who would call Orlando this - all the Germans I know call it just a perfect place!

The areas to avoid in orlando would be just west of downtown all the way out until kirkman rd. The northwest part called pine hills or lockhart and southwest called holden heights, thats off the south obt area up to about sand lake. And some areas off semoron blvd the rest is not too bad.
