Hi every body,
I am planning on moving back to the USA (Orlando, FL) in November. I was actually planning on moving to the Tampa/Clearwater area first and then decided not to, since there might be better job opportunities in Orlando. Well in the last couple of day's my whife and I have started to thoroughly look at the good & bad neighborhoods and also crime statistics. I am shocked and a little sad by the results I have come up with for Orlando. Orlando is all Tourism and this is exactly what it thrives on. Yet, the politicians seem to do nothing about getting a grip on crime? I live in Germany and I have talked to people of different nationalities that say they have been to Orlando (Disney World) and discribe it as: "Orlando is one big "dirt hole", "ghetto", "asylum seeking paradise". Looking at my survey, it shows that you can forget: - north east part of Orlando - south east part of Orlando and you even need to be careful when taking the south western part of Orlando into consideration. The only place where a young family can live and be a little bit on the safe side is north west area of Orlando. Now I am seriously thinking about choosing Tampa instead, but I need to do some investigation on Tampa before making a final decision. What do you guys think? ![]() |

I think you should look to move towards Clermont......it is safe and close enough to Orlando to get things done....Orlando does have some issues but you will be ok if you stay out of the really bad areas...random crime can happen anywhere in the country though and anywhere in Orlando....but Clermont should be a good area for you |

Thank you for your reply. I took a look at Clermont nad found it to be about 20 Miles
outside of downtown Orlando, which is perfectly fine for me. But, it does add up in gas costs and the traffic jams on highway 50. It would be appr. 36 miles to get to the int. airport. That might just add up to a min. of two hours getting to work and back considering traffic. Is there anything closer that you can suggest? |

Almost any area in Orlando is okay. Its like any other city. I would not move anywhere near downtown area or north of the airport, but other than that you'll be okay. Everybody here hypes up the crime so we feel sorry for them.

I live in Seminole county, and love it very much. we are located between disney world and the beach, and have lived here in Lake Mary for over 12 years. I don't mind commuting to Orlando when I have to, but I prefer the suburbs of Orlando. We have wonderful schools, great family neighborhoods, and it's close to all sorts of shopping too. I hope that helps, and welcome!

Look at Lake Nona. A gorgeous new area very convenient to the airport. Obviously whomever was giving you advice had not visited Lake Mary, Winter Park, Waterford Lakes, Lake Nona, Windermere and a number of other beautiful areas of Orlando.

I am one of the people you say that probably "hypes up" the crime.....well this is why you say that...1st ...i have actually been robbed at gunpoint and seen other inccedents happen out here and i do get the local news but i dont let all that get me to commit suicide.....2nd.....you have probably never been a victim so you dont know where me or others that talk about it are coming from.....i just told this person on this thread that i thought Clermont was ok....does it truly look like i am making things up about the crime problem when i say things that have actually happened to me or "someone" in diffrent areas of our city? How do you know exactly what this person is used to in Germany?......so dont put him in harms way telling him Orlando is an overall safe area because random crimes happen in good areas more than most other cities ....Clermont is a place that i have never really heard of crimes happening and being from Germany or at least living there at the moment..maybe this person isnt used to an area like you or me are...look through thier eyes too |

We love Windermere. Let me know if you need any info on the area. I have been to Germany a couple of times and just love the place. Maybe we could just trade places.

Wodan: I'm not sure where you got the idea that Southeast Orlando is bad, but Lake Nona is about as Southeast as you can get in the City of Orlando and it's a wonderful area. It's still developing and the biggest developer in the area (Tavistock) has loads of money and seems intent on making it a premier location in Orlando. We've been living in the Lake Nona area for almost 4 years and would have a hard time moving anywhere else in the metro area. I'm not sure that there is anywhere else in Orlando that you can routinely have deer, wood storks and sandhill cranes walk through your backyard like we do now. |

Wow you just never give up looking for a problem don't you, I've committed crimes and been a victim also, quit crying to everybody that you were robbed everytime you make a post, you sound like a broken record. You just want everyone to feel sorry for you, well guess what, we don't care! I never mentioned your name and all your posts are the same. |
