Default Should a big city guy relocating to Orlando be afraid of living in the MetroWest area?

I was raised in the Northeast and lived in some of the so-called most dangerous cities in the US (including Detroit, New York-Brooklyn, Philly, Atlanta, etc.) without any major incidents; however, I was single then and now have a family to be concerned about. I would like to hear from others that have relocated to Orlando from some of the above mentioned places or other similar big cities (living in the suburbs does not count) about their impressions of the MetroWest area.

Living close to a bad neighborhood doen't scare me. I lived in the Fort Greene area of Brooklyn for a number of years and watch it transform from a spotty area to multi million dollar homes.

I would just say ...come on down and see for yourself....there isnt going to be a winner in an arguement on here about whether one neighborhood from one city is worse than another from another city because there are victims and there are non-victims from both areas

I have met people that lived in the Bronx that say they were never a victim of crime....and i can saythat alot of people i know here in Orlando have not been victims here, but then there are people like me that have been victims and people up there that have too

If you are a non victim that lived in PINE HILLS, ORLANDO and moved to NYC and tell people how bad crime was in Orlando and happen to tell a person that was a victim up there then what do you think that victim would say?.....

And if you were a non victim that came from NYC and came to Orlando Florida and tryed to tell a victim how bad NYC was ..how do you think the person from Orlando will respond?

No one wins in this

In essence what I'm trying to determine is MetroWest like an under value stock that is taking a beating because of bad news/performance or is it just a bad investment/place to live with no redeeming value.

I really dont think Orlando has a blight problem as in it doesnt look all graffitied up with trash on the streets......so its kind of hard to tell where the crime areas would be if your used to actually seeing dirty areas like in cities up north or like in Miami....(i say Miami because i have lived in Miami) ......some areas look dirty in Orlando but what im getting at is that Metrowest from what i saw looked pretty clean and didnt look terrible but they had alot of home break-ins and home invasions in the past and some robberies in that area and the surrounding areas are considered areas where the poor neighborhoods are in Orlando so some issues spill over into Metrowest....but i heard it has been alot safer there lately because of all of the off-duty cops and other things they have done to change things there.....I havent lived there but i know people that do....im not the expert on day-to-day life there

I currently live in a so-called safe suburban area, but will never let my wife walk or jog at night, that's just how I'm wired, as a result of my big city rearing.

well if you moved to metrowest, not much is probably going to change. orlando is no longer mickey mouse and family fun. we have some major crime issues here. murders, car jackings, robberies, road rage, and guns/knives in our schools. i will not raise my child here and i live in a nice area. my child will not learn spanish just to go to school around here, that's the truth!
