Default Good/Bad Areas

Several of this board have observed that there are 'pockets' of 'bad' areas mixed in throughout Central Florida. I realize there is truth to this. I think of Altamonte Springs and the area next to the intersection of 436 and 17-92 by the McDonald's my son and his friends jokingly refer to as "CrackDonalds". This is just one example.

The question I would like to pose is what caused this? Is this different than other towns/cities? If so, why did it happen here? Most towns have a bad area on one side of town or in one section. Did Central Florida just grow so fast that they ran together?

That is what im getting at when i say there are bad areas......because you can move to a great neighborhood in Orlando like near the Altamonte Mall, but if you needed to go somewhere and got lost with your family in the car and ended up in that neighborhood where the crackdonalds was then you would be surprised that there is a dangerous area around where you live.....its not even 3 miles from the nice areas around there.....I know that South Florida is kind of the same way....there are pockets of ghetto areas throught Dade-Broward-Palm Beach..........usually if you live in the nicer areas of town you dont really have to worry about things too much but that is scarry for people that come from out of town and dont know that there is anywhere else that is ghetto except Pine Hills and they take a turn into that street with the crackdonalds on it....ive driven back in that neighborhood before.....and it isnt murder city but there was some people that looked like they did crack walking around and there are some shady people mixed in with some good people that are just stuck in that area....I love living here for real.....i like that there is alot of things to do here and the weather and the people look attractive compared to other places ive been.....but i wish i could answer your question about why Orlando is like this with a really nice big area mixed in with a pocket of ghetto ......i dont know how those areas came about and im sure there might be other cites (like Memphis) that are the same but most cities only have a couple bad parts of town and then the rest is middle class or rich folks around that........

I actually disagree with this. Name one bad neighborhood west of Jog Road in Palm Beach County, besides from Belle Glade and such WAY out west (pretty vast area to be without bad neighborhood) and one bad neighborhood west of University Drive in Broward County (very vast area). I can't.

Neither would I...the only areas I could think of that I would raise my kids down here are Cooper City, parts of Coral Springs, Davie, Wellington, Weston, west Pembroke Pines, Jupiter, Boca Raton,Parkland, or west Boynton Beach. I mean, it sounds like a lot of areas, but when you look at how big So Fla is, it really isn't...
The only areas I would raise kids near Orlando are Winter Springs, Oviedo, and Lake Mary.
