where does he want to be a police officer?

I was thinking he'd be able to choose where he wanted to be so I was figuring he'd probably choose here (St Cloud, Kissimmee), but my sister said that they would decide where to place him and that they sometimes send new people to rough places to "break them in". I haven't checked to see if that's true, but even it is, I won't be able to talk him out of doing it. I know it's going to worry me to death once he's out in the field, so in the meantime I'll be trying to think of other occupations he can branch off into that would be a little safer. |

I tried to talk him into becoming a pharmacist (heard they start at about 100k) but he said he wanted to be doing something he cared about.
So if it drives me nuts feeling that he's not safe, hopefully I can think of a way he can branch off into something that would appeal to him. |

Yes I heard from several sources that this is low income/section 8/affordable housing...whatever you want to call it....the bottom line it is low-income housing. There have been several residents discussing this and the consensus is that it is having an affect on the area's image as well as property value. The word is spreading like a fire...and tempers are flairing about the entire situation.
YES those in the area are claiming to live in Avalon Park when the reality is they do not...and it is having a very detreminetal affect on Avalon Park, the residents, and the home values. The conversations now go like this: Avalon Park Resident:"I live in Avalon Park." Non-Resident: Oh by the section 8 housing? Avalon Resident:"No Avalon Park has no section 8 housing." Non-resident: Oh I have seen several section 8 housing people say they live in Avalon Park. At which point the Avalon Park residents get angry/annoyed...and the non-resident walks away thinking they are full of it and don't want to admit they live in a section 8 housing development (when of course they don't). This is happening also with realtors...and this cycle is now turning away buyers.... |

I hope every house in Avalon Park drops in value by at least 30%. Pretty sad that adults sound like children not getting what they want.

It's not about "getting what you want." For me, it is about being able to get out of a place and city you are disappointed with, and no longer want to live in... I dont want to have to sell my house for less than what I paid for it. Who would?
PS- the Real Estate market will go back up again, so I am really not THAT worried about it. |

Who do you think is suppossed to work alot of those jobs out in Avalon Park, the ones that don't pay enough to live there? Gas is getting so expensive it isn't worth it to most poor people to commute across Orlando. Think about that before you complain about Section 8 and your precious property values. If you bought into Avalon park in the last 2-3 years, you got screwed. No other way to put it. Housing values over time track local wages, not whims. Wages in Orlando are low, so therefore housing prices will come down over time. |
