Well I think it's safe to say that Orlando wins. You guys who plan to leave should and leave us "forevers" here alone with our thuggish selves. HE HE HE.

honestly, i think the 7 ppl (thus far) that says there not leaving must be the newbies. this is just my opinion. but i dont know that many ppl that are happy here and want to stay for a long while

I think you may be right. The people I know with 5+ years are planning to leave either as soon as they can or when the "kids graduate in the next X amount of years". I hear this one constantly at work. My boss will have to replace 80% of the workforce in the next 5 years if this is true.

As for the people who love it here, good for you! I don't presume to project my ideas of quality of life on anyone. But it makes me wonder where on earth you come from to think that Orlando is anything but fairytales, pixie dust, over-priced homes, crazy taxes, and blue-collar workers.

those characteristics i can deal with. how about all the rude nj/ny/pr'ans, the horrible drivers, the crime, and no community feel to it.

I understand your point, but I was responding to those who obviously do not see the things you listed as a problem. I agree with you 100%, but that is a perception of Orlando. What I pointed out about the lack of culture and type of people who live here is well documented.

Put my list with yours, and you have a fine list of reasons young and middle-aged professionals often find this place in poor taste.

I agree with this also......I think those peoples' views come from the fact that alot of people that come here actually have the money to get into the nice new communities down here because they sold houses where they were and have extra money to spend......and also most of them have nice jobs already lined up so they really aren't living the life of an average person from Orlando that works in service industry or answering phones for telemarketing companies....ect........so they get here and really dont comprehend why people are having a hard time here....for me personally i don't have a problem too much with living lower midlle class lifestyle (it just makes me mad when middle and upper class people think they know the issues my class deals with in Orlando)......i am used to this lifestyle but i do have a problem with the attitudes of people in this town and the way people drive .......it makes a pretty place seem not so pretty because of the way people act out here....My ex-girlfriend is from Long Island NY and we still go out to the movies and stuff. Last night we went to see "The Kingdom" and she was playing with me after we were walking out of the movie and she knocked the popcorn out of my hand.....Well i bent down and started cleaning it up, and she gave me a look like "why was i doing this?"....and then she asked me why i was doing that....well i said it was our responsibility to pick up our own mess and she acted like the people that work there were responsible...yeah they do get paid to clean it up, but it's just rude to drop a whole thing of popcorn and just walk away....I don't know if that's a northern mentality from Long Island or what but thats not the only northerner that ive seen this kind of behavior from....i just think it's 2 different cultures and that's why people can't see why others get bent out of shape about things......maybe im wrong about the northern thing ....i just know that growing up in the south that most of my friends and family and people ive run across would bend down and pick up thier own mess in that situation....because ive seen that happen before in different situations.....bring on the arguments ......this is just my own experience with people in "my" life...i am not judging everyone from up north.....i have known some really nice people from PA, NY, and Mass.....but alot of the culture is different and im just pointing out one little incedent that has happened a couple times in life so that is what i base my belief on...i can't change the way those specific people acted in those specific situations ....and im not an angel either .....i have done things i was ashamed of in life but i try not to be disrespectfull to people around me by leaving my mess for someone to clean up...that's all im getting at here.....im just saying that i always hear people from up north saying that i should see the streets there if i think they are dirty here ....well that tells me alot about the people in those areas......maybe thats why things are cleaner here like you admitt

I hear you. I know the streets up north where I'm from are very dirty too - mostly from 6 months of snow and ice that collect trash then leave it blowing in the wind during the summer months.

As far as dirty people in Orlando, here's my theory:

It's basic "tragedy of the commons". Very few people are from here, many people will not end up staying here, and many people are just passing through. To them, Orlando is a commodity. Something to be used up for entertainment purposes only. It's not their friends or family cleaning up the theater, streets, city, etc. So who cares? When something belongs to eveyone, everyone thinks someone else will take care of the mess.

As much as I loathe Hillary Clinton and 99% of everything she represents, I will say that it takes a village to come together as a community to make a place feel like home. In my opinion, we're missing that in Orlando right now and it shows.
