THASPECIAL has a spectacular aura aboutTHASPECIAL has a spectacular aura aboutTHASPECIAL has a spectacular aura aboutTHASPECIAL has a spectacular aura about
I think that proof of the impatience in Orlando compared to NC and TN is that those other states don't feel the need to put up signs about red light running in thier cities.....that is just one thing that you can physically see a difference in the mentalities of each place.....people down here don't care about the safety of others ...they only care about getting somewhere fast even if they put people in danger.....there is no arguement against this.....those signs arent in every other city

and when i went to Nashville i was shopping at Kroger and when i got out of the store i started to take the food out of my cart and after that i was going to leave it right around where my car was out of habit from living in ORlando but you know what made me realize i wasnt in the same atmosphere was when i saw no other carts just sitting throughout the parking lot and as i started to let go of the cart i noticed a feeling like the people around me were surprised that i was going to leave my cart there, so like i used to do before i moved to Orlando (when i was living in Nashville before) I walked the cart up to one of those areas where you store the carts in the proper place....these are things that people here and even me can be blind to and not even realize we are doing and not even see as a rude behavior and its another reason i know for sure that things are different here in Orlando....test it...go to a wal-mart tommorow and count the carts just sitting out there in the middle of no where....and you can even do it at Publix too

I agree with you but not totally. What keeps you from doing the right thing? Why can't you just put the cart back in its place regardless of what the other uncaring people do? See if most of us just did what is right, then maybe we could show the others, by example, and we might just win a battle.

I know we sometimes get tired of being the good guy and that we are not getting anywhere because we are just the oddball. But if instead of caving in and giving up our principles, we stick to them and show some respect for all, we might just 1) feel better about ourselves 2) make somebody else accountable for their actions and re-actions.

That thing about the carts is a really good example. Sometimes I think one of these days my head will be blown off but I will, right in the person's face, take their cart that they are leaving just anywhere, and move it to the proper place for them and I make damn sure they see me.

I'll go to the ends of the earth to set someone straight.

The other thing that bothers me too is like when a driver is coming out of a side road or a driveway and they stick out just a little too much and I either have to stop or move over - neither are always real safe, but if I can, I will get right by them and either signal them sarcastically to go through, or they have to push back for me to continue.

I think one of the differences between Florida, Chicago, LA, NYC - the big towns, is overcrowding, expensive, long commutes, bad weather. These things start taking a toll on people. All those other states in between, many are just beginning to wake up and smell the coffee. Give them a few years.

But these are all the people who are flocking to TN, NC, GA, etc. How long do you think those places will stay as nice as you think they are now if all the unfriendly bad seed is going there?

You know where I grew up in NYC was a Jewish neighborhood. Then Cubans came in and Jews moved. Then Puerto Ricans came and Cubans left. Then Dominicans came and Puerto Ricans left. It's a vicious cycle.

I Live in Both Raleigh and Miami Beach and agree that NC is MUCH more civil, polite and courteous in every aspect of life. I'd also throw in that service is better and more reliable and that people (at least in Raleigh) are more educated. That said, I love my life between the two places. Each acts as the perfect balance for the other.

Having moved to Raleigh from CA as a pre-teen in the mid 70's, I can tell you that I have seen many, many people "transformed" by the culture in NC. I have also seen the people of NC transformed by the influence of those who come. In most cases, this has been a generally positive transformation on both sides of the coin. The Northerners become less hurried and more polite while the Southerners become more educated and less culturally myopic. I think people in FL would be surprised by the changes in their behavior once the environment around them is different. I think that, as human beings, we all want the same things. I also think that, as human beings, we are ultimately shaped by the environment around us.
In the meantime, we can all "Be the Change You Want to See in The World"

Exactly! That is in line with what I said before about each one of us just doing the right thing and it will be a domino effect.

Environment plays a huge role in every aspect. If you want someone to quit drugs, get them out that environment. If you want someone to learn a different language, get them out of their native language environment. We can only reap what we sow.

GR82BAGATOR is on a distinguished road
I just want to say that most native Floridians, such as myself, are not the problem with Florida. If you meet one of us, you will hear things like....please, thank you mam or sir, yes sir/mam, no sir/mam, Could I help you with that?, Here let me open the door for you, or at the very least we are the one's waving & smiling!...We still have the manners we were raised with and a deep, deep love of the south and all that it means to be a southern man/women. I hope that on your trips to Florida, you meet us and see that all of Florida has not lost its charm. If you travel rural Florida and not the "big" cities where the implants go, you will get a taste of "real" Florida and I promise it won't leave a bad aftertaste! Thanks y'all for listening to the rantings of a true Florida native, I think I am the last of a dying or should I say moving breed! Oh, and should you be lucky enough to have us "natives" move to your great state, I promise we won't lose our mind and start acting like ill-mannered Neanderthals!

It just hurts my heart to hear ALL of Florida being lumped into one....Please remember that there are some very rural areas left in Florida and those pockets of people are some of the best you'll ever meet!

I agree with you ....it took me being back in that atmosphere to see that i needed to do things the right way and i have been bringing the old ways back like trying to be curtious in traffic and such....you are right though and i believe exactly in the same thing as what you said about being the example in this world....if you know there is something wrong then you should shine your light and let your example show others that we dont have to forget our morals......

The driving issues i agree with you too...i work in the tourist area delivering pizza and see alot of things that people wouldnt really do if they werent on vacation and accidents are the results of these mistakes...i see one almost everyday on my shift out there....i saw a car by the Shell station around 2am last night it was wrecked and flipped upside down on 535......people just walk across raods alot out in that area without paying attention..because they are "on vacation"....then when you almost hit them because you didnt see them till the last moment..they look at u like you are at fault...idiots in this area

I know alot of people will disagree when i say this but my personal belief about things changing in those states...is that it wont change like Florida has changed.....Florida/(the bigger cities Miami Orlando) is like a northern state.....there are churches here but there isnt that sense of strong beliefs in God in this area like up in TN.....In Nashville there are hundreds of churches literally and its a common thing to hear many of your co-workers saying they go to church every week up there....there is more sense of community and helping the fallen man next to you and raising him up....here it is a different atmosphere...the feeling here is like you are on your own ....that is just the sense i get about Orlando and thats why i say Florida is like a northern state as far as the beliefs and ways of life are concerned.....I think that faith in God has alot to do with a community....the faith that you see and the feel in Nashville is not an agnostic feel at all......people up there seem to make themselves more responsible about the way they treat others because they have a higher power to answer to.....and there are christians here to and other religions as well but the overall feel of Orlando is that its a man made world and we are all making it on our own without a God and Disney is what keeps the town running ect.......ill have to clarify what i wrote hear later , but i just needed to get the rough draft out right now...sorry
