My family is moving to Orlando within about a month, likely the Oviedo area. I have a three year old son currently attending a great preschool that we hate to leave behind. We are looking for another preschool that has a similar play-based learning philosophy. We are not interested in preschools that push academics at this age. We also are looking for a preschool that offers a lot of outside time; 30 mins doesn’t cut it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Too bad. You're in Florida, the testing capital of the world!

You might want to look into the Montessori philosophy and see if it would be a good fit for you and your kids. There's a few Montessori schools around the metro area.

While Montessori schools provide a rich, engaging environment for young children, they don't really encourage free or imaginative play. Rather, children are encouraged to engage in practical, real tasks and explore how things work. So it's a different type of "play."

You really want your child outside in 90 degree heat and humidity for extended periods of time?

As opposed to being kept indoors all day? Absolutely. We moved to CA from FL so we are familiar with the weather.

Uh, no you aren't. There's a detail called humidity that you didn't deal with in CA.

The OP said she move TO Cali FROM Florida, which would mean she's familiar with FL weather. (at least that is how I took it)

You're right, my mistake.

I still wouldn't want my kid on a playground for hours at a time in the warmer months.

Neither would I.

In fact, I plan indoor play activities all summer (either at home or Monkey Joe type stuff) and then outdoor adventures Nov-Mar.
