My husband is seriously considering accepting a job offer in Orlando. We live in Ohio, so heat and humidity are not new to us, but all year? What, aside from air conditioning, do you do to handle the heat? I can't imagine eating outside, or taking a walk or playing outside in 90 degrees. Do you? Or does everybody do outdoor things early in the morning and then stay inside all day? What do kids do in the summer?

It's really only bad for three or four months. It's very nice mid September through June. During the other months, it's like living directly on the surface of the sun!
Everyone deals with it in different ways. Many people flat out are not bothered by it. The rest of us mow the lawn and go grocery shopping before 10am or after 7pm. All in all, the heat would be the least of my worries in Orlando. |

7:00 AM tee times during the summer are the best. You're done by 11:30 or so in time to get home for football in the afternoon.
For every other day of the week, head to the mall, stay home and read a book, find a friend with a boat (or be a friend with a boat), go to places like the Wine Room for a cool place to sit and a nice glass of wine, or just turn on the sprinklers and run like a little kid ... It's definitely hot in Florida during the Summer and it wears on you when late August rolls around. It's no worse than the bitter cold that other places get during the winter months, though ... definitely no shoveling of snow in Orlando. |

I think most people just adapt to it over time but there are a few who don't and move back north.....yeah its about 3pm on October 10th and it's like 92 degrees outside...we have yet to feel that feeling of fall here....there was one day a week or two ago that i thought it was going to get cooler and i thought that it was the fall weather coming but it was only a front that gave us some rain for about a week.....guess ill keep waiting .....i love fall weather in Florida
I used to not even know the difference when i was a kid about the heat all year round when i was growing up in Florida....we always walked to the public pool in Lake City and Tallahasse when i was a kid if it was hot......but other than that i guess we just layed out the slip-n-slide....or sprayed each other with the water hose.....or we just stayed in doors |

Okay, okay, I get it! Like here, only more intense and with beautiful sunshine.
Maybe it's the hot flashes I'm having that make me dread it... |

think about it this way: In the north, you wouldn't wanna spend too much time outside in winter. It's the same here for a few months in summer. But the winters are great.

I lived in Orlando for 8 years and loved it most of the time. I couldn't have survived if I didn't have a swimming pool in my backyard. One thing for certain, being from the NorthEast, I dearly missed the Fall and early Winter months. But January through April is great in Florida.

You are a prisoner in your home literally 300 days a year. No job offer is worth moving here. I used to live in Dayton Ohio. I just got home and my outside thermometer is 98 degree. My car thermometer said 95. They lie about the temperature here to keep tourists interests. I am serious, they take it at the airport at like 2000 feet. It is a huge scam. I beg you not move here.
