Long Island Mermaid is on a distinguished road
Default Will be looking for a great (outside) sales position

Are there any outside sales people on here who can recommend a good company to work for. I have 5 years in high end mens wear (including custom made clothing). 10 years in telecommunications and intergrated services, and 6 yrs in real estate sales and have done some business brokerage. I have an associates degree (that eliminates medical sales) but would be willing to go back and get my BA. I am relocating from Long Island to Windermere and am open to just about any type of sales. Where are sales people making the big$$$. I was considering financial planning, selling new homes for a builder, timeshares and traditional real estate re-sale but as a buyers agent primarily. Anyone with any other good ideas, please fill me in. I will be moving Nov. 3rd.
Thank you,

Financial Planning, I wouldn't know. I have friends working for Wachovia and Wamu, but inside sales, both do well, I wouldn't consider them financial planners though.

Selling new homes for a builder, This may be tough to get into as they are slowing down their neighborhood starts and all the good builders have sales people that have been with the company for a very long time.

I have a friend that just started timeshare about 6 months ago. According to him even the guys that have been there a long time are doing maybe 2-3 tours a week, and being new he gets maybe 1 a week. And the success rate is very low.

Traditional Real Estate....of course I think it's great!

I didn't think you needed a bachelors for medical sales? I know they make great money and considered it myself years ago. I'd think with all the experience you have they wouldn't require a BA.

good luck with whatever you choose.

Well that sounds real promising.lol. So how are you making things happen in this lousy market? Do you work in a specific niche?
My friend is working with Ryland in Jacksonville and had no former sales experience in her whole life. She worked in admin or something but then begged her way into sales. They finally agreed and she is kickin A__...won the award vacation first year and has probably already hit 6 figs this year. I met with her office but then decided that I was not crazy about that area and decided to move to where my house was (Independence-previously an investment :-(~) I will just antagonize them until they let me in for an interview...and other builders too.
Who do you work for, or do you have your own agency?

Consistently getting out there talking to FSBO's, Expireds, withdrawns, and working on my network. Nothing secret about the techniques, biggest thing is to remain consistent and not get discouraged. There are alot of bad agents out there, which is why the 80/20 rule is more like the 90/10 rule now. 10% of agents still do 90% of the business and are still doing well, if not as amazing as 05' and 06'

If you can get into sales with a builder, it is great $.

I currently work under EXIT Real Estate Professionals in East Orlando.

I have a friend who does outside sales for a heavy equipment sales and rental company and is making over 100K. Look into something like that and I don't think you will have a problem making money or finding a job. Good luck!

Default Thank you

Thank you cmj and greg for all the good advice. Heavy equiptment would be a change of pace (I once did well selling dry cleaning machines for a little while). I am open to everything...nice to have options.
