Hello,
It looks like my husband's office will be in NW Orlando. Which areas would be smart to look in for homes, geared toward strong schools (have a 4th grader and 8th grader) and great family atmosphere? I'm not familiar at all with Orlando so I don't even know what burbs I should be considering. Thanks!

What part of NW Orlando? And what's your budget?

If you can go out as far a Apopka, there are some really good values available. Also Clermont is a beautiful area with some good values, esp. if you want a home on a bigger piece of property.

Ryland Homes, for example, is offering an astounding discount on move-in houses at one of their developments out that way, Waterside Pointe at Groveland.

Btw, I'm not a realtor...just someone who is also planning a move to Orlando!

Commute options are limited on the NW side in terms of adequate highway accessibility. I'd recommend the west side of Altamonte Springs in the Wekiva Springs area. It's part of the Lake Brantley sub-district, one of the best in Seminole County which is a Top 10 school district in the state. Without knowing your budget I would recommend the Wekiva Springs/Sweetwater Oaks/Sabal Palm/Sabal Club neighborhoods which are very nice family-oriented communities. It would be a fairly easy commute south on 434 to the 414, and then south on the 429 Toll or US441 depending upon work location.

I would highly advise this as well.

Apopka was named the 14th friendliest city in America by Forbes Magazine in December. There are some really good deals on homes in the area and the schools are excellent.

Groveland to NW Orlando? Please look at a map and make the commute a few times during rush hour before making suggestions like that. Also Groveland schools aren't that great. At all.

I'd suggest Winter Park or Maitland. Heathrow is a little further but really nice.

Depending on how Northwest of Orlando the OP is talking of, this is a very good recommendation.

The Wekiva-Apopka region is solid and indeed rather affordable because of how far away from downtown Orlando it is.

And yeah, Groveland is WAY too far West.
