![]() From now on, no one living in New Jersy can tell me about crime there. I have been there on vacation and it seemed just fine. |

That's how i think too.....i know lots of New Yorkers and New Jersey people that come here to Orlando and say how they see no crime that compares to what they personally saw up there.....but i dont hear any people that go on trips up there to NJ/NY that say they saw a shooting or robbery happen on thier trip so anyone that just visits Florida and says there isnt as bad crime as where they are from is only decieving themselves because they have a pride about where they are from and "nothing" could be as bad as where "they" are from.....listen whoever says that thier town is worse than Orlando ......People got robbed, carjacked, and killed as tourists in Miami back in tha day, and nowadays tourists are getting robbed at gunpoint in Orlando's good nice tourist areas......tell me that people have AK-47's pulled on them in Manhatten while walking to a broadway play....it happens here and if that is safer than NY then i guess my whole life is a fantasy huh?

We had a couple of drug dealers here in Scarborough Maine shooting at each other with AK47s and both the drug dealers ended up dead. No big loss but it just goes to show that crime is everywhere...even in "safe" states like Maine.

Orlando was on the national news not long ago and listed I think as the number 2 city nationwide for crime; I think it is probably a combo of alot of things; I now own a home in BVL which was my parents home of 20+years. In all of the years they lived there they never had ANYTHING happen; we have good neighbors but from appearances the subdivision looks honestly like crap. I really would love to see a homeowner's association and some enforcement of issues (i.e. no parking on the LAWN, parking in driveways
with the r.e. market being what it is it can only get worse unless good people step forward to help make it better..... |

Ive lived in BVL since 93 and i have seen in go steadily down hill. Its still fairly quiet, but the drugs and gangs are getting worst. Now dont get me wrong, i moved here from miami and yes it is better here than some place like miami , detroit, NY, etc, but its sad to see what was once a nice suburb start turning bad. We are looking to move out ASAP to a more "normal" conservative ,area Northern Rockies or the mid west. Just so you know i am 1/2 cuban and my wife is from out of country as well but when you start to feel like a forginer in your own country ( USA) its time to move and find a place that we feel safe and like we belong. This is NOT a place we want to raise our kids and would never send them to public school here. My kid brother went to Gateway class 2000 (i saw first hand) here and i have have several friends move out of the area due to drugs and crime in the schools. When we do move its either private Christian school or home schooling for our kids. The plus side of living here ( low taxes, low cost of living compared to wages, and for the most part the government is not too oppressive here, also Fl is open minded about homeschooling)

what the hell type of person would have pride in living in a place with a lot of crime??? and for the record orlandos murder rate in 2006 was 22 per 100,000 which means a 0.00022% chance of being murdered (and much much lower in u are not involved in crime yourself) or in other words theres a 99.99988% chance that you will not be murdered in orlando, when u look at it rationally crime is not something u need to worry about, u should be much more worried about getting in a traffic accident |

If I was still in the area, I would be more worried about car Jackings, home invasions, strong arm robberies, burglary, and (being married with kids), rape and child abduction.

I think the rough areas of Orlando are a lot worse than the rough areas in Kissimmee, even though both to the eye way appear to be equivalent. The 192 strip is not an area I avoid at night like I do Pine Hills and Parramore in Orlando. I am going purely off my street smarts though and no statistics. I had friends come to town in 06 or 07 and stay on the 192 strip and they said the area seemed dumpy but did not come across as unsafe.
