Hello,
I need some help. My husband and I are considering moving from Nj to Central Florida. I have been doing a lot of research. Based on my research and a recent trip, we really like the Saint Cloud and Harmony areas. The schools seem great (A rated), which is very important to me. We have two young children. We really like the Anthem Park community because there is so much to do, (parks, pool, tennis, volley ball) However, I have a few concerns. Is there really a lot of crime? Is racism really an issue? How is the job market? I would really appreciate some advice.
Thanks in advance!

I love St. Cloud. People who go on about crime in Osceola County are usually talking about Kissimmee. I've had no problems. At all. The worst thing are the Muscovy ducks. They're ugly and they poop all over the place. Can't call the cops about them, though.

Then you have your people saying there is nothing in St. Cloud but cows, which is also not my experience. Once upon a time, O'hare airport was all fields and cows. Things change. People don't always keep up with the changes. Harmony is more rural, but still nice. Rural is not a bad thing! Peace and quiet - oh, the horror!

St. Cloud has many nice neighborhoods and they keep building new ones. I hope they don't build TOO many. I love to drive around and see lots of grass sometimes. It's nice.

I'm very happy in St. Cloud. It's quiet and pleasant. We get no tourists. 192 is busy and kinda - not bad, but not exactly pleasant to drive through...but I don't spend much time on 192. I like the lakefront. I love my neighborhood. The people in the stores are nice and my neighbors are fantastic.

I was going to live somewhere else and only went to St. Cloud because I fell in love with the house. I'm so happy I ended up here.

Don't be talked out of it. It really is Orlando's hidden gem.

Where will you be working? St. Cloud is a long commute from many of the employment centers in the Orlando area.

She makes a good point. If you are concerned with commutes, get a home near where you work and never take a job further away (or move if you do.)

I didn't know where I'd be working when I moved, but I don't chose my home location by where I am currently employed, either. That's me.

Some people (not necessarily annerk!) in Orlando seem to think a commute time over 20 minutes is some kind of crime against humanity. If they're driving 35-60 minutes, they're crying about it. So take some of the "long commute" talk with a grain of sand. Ask people what they mean by a "long drive" and you might be surprised. I smile to myself sometimes when they complain about being in traffic for "FORTY MINUTES!!!"

Good luck with your relocation! Let me know if you want more St. Cloud specifics!

If I had young kids, I'd be in Harmony. Seems like a great place to grow up.

As a person who recently moved from rural upstate NY to Kissimmee, I must say I am happy. I am currently living in Kissimmee while our new home is being built in Anthem Park Saint Cloud. I too fell in love with Saint Cloud compared to certain parts of Kissimmee. I have a child attending Neptune Middle School he entered the sixth grade and has made a wonderful transition he has lots of friends and loves the school. Now concerning crime you can log onto osceola.org and see the arrest reports most people are arrested for minor crimes like petit theft, driving without License, marijauna, warrants etc. I have friends who work at the county jail and state they agree there are very few harden criminals around. Now I do realize Saint Cloud has a drug problems like cociaine, meth etc but its not in all areas and not like its rampant if you want drugs I am sure you can find some but again that's everywhere. Overall I feel comfortable in Saint Cloud oh racism I have been lucky and haven't experienced any yet now some co-workers make some remarks which could raise a eyebrow but nothing crazy. I do realize some people are racist and this is the south but as long as no one bothers me and my family then it's good. I been here 8 months took me two months to get a job. I am happy with my choice and we all love it here. And yes some parts of Kissimme are better than others but again that's everywhere know what parts to stay away from if you don't want trouble. Good luck maybe you will be my neighbor in Anthem Park!

like ALGS, i too find myself living in orlando and i feel totally lost. originally from nyc, i lived in hollywood, fl for 10 quiet years until the seminole tribe built the hollywood hard rock casino. the beautiful mobile home park next door to the casino is on their land and they booted everyone out so they could expand their casino. i was not afforded the opportunity to sell my home, i had to abandon my home and given a $3000.00 moving grant. i live in the pine castle area of orlando and hate it. i want to be near kissimmee to be near my sister, but not so close to all the "rigamarol" of disney. i like what LUVORLANDO wrote; i don't mind a few cows.....so.....i was searching around the internet and found zip code area 34769 in st. cloud. i was thinking of visiting a mobile home park called The Mark. there are a few in that zip code....anyone out there know if that area is nice and not too crime ridden? I live alone, 50 something and work from home. i like that the monthly rents are affordable for me....i am on partial disability.....until my knee replacment....then i want to go out and dance again . i too have heard rumors of some racial tension....being half Italian and Puerto Rican, i can do without the nonsense of racisim.

Im also buying in Anthem Park, just looking for a little bit more information. It seemed to me a great place, with a lot of amenities. Also google maps shows a lot of places to eat and shop.

I choose it because for my budget was the best I could find and loved the area. I work weekends, so you guys will have a week day guy around the place while everyone works.

If you are still interested in settling into Mark Park, (903 Lenore Ave), I have a home there that I have for sell, ($2,000.00). Mark Park is peaceful beautiful 55+ community. Nice people there too.

Not to take this off subject, but can you tell me a little bit about why you hate the Pine Castle neighborhood? The reason I'm asking is because my in-laws are considering buying a home there to use for a winter home because they can get it fairly cheaply, and I have some concerns. The area doesn't feel very safe to me, and with them in their 80s now I want them to be in a very safe area. Any information, good or bad, would be much appreciated.
