Orlando Hates minorities?
My goodness. I have been looking at moving to Orlando but now i am definately looking somewhere else. I can definitely read that from the Orlando posters that if your black, Spanish, or anything but NOT white. You will be hated and will be called the cause of ruining the city. I am undesirable a leech and just someone that will bring nothing but crime rape and drugs to the city even though I have nothing to do with any of those things.
man i thought Florida was more progressive than Mississippi but i see it pretty much isn't. I teach computers to kids and adults in my job here in upstate ny so i definitely and someone looking to just destroy the area. But man, it seems like i will be cussed at and spit on as soon as i get off the plane. Last time i was in Orlando was 2 years ago. My cousins lived in metro west, i rented a hotel in the universal area and got around by bus to see how easy or bad it was. It seemed very very nice, and friendly when i was there then but good lord if this is how the city will treat me now when if i move think i should definitely looks somewhere thats more friendly to blacks, I say that because after readings post on this site this city is far far far from what it was now. Man what a change in 2 years. i don't think i have ever seen a city go from friendly to hate filled in this short of a time.

Uhm.....You're kidding, right?
I lived in Hunter's Creek for almost two years, but had to move back home to Boston so wifey could finish up law school.
We're moving BACK to Hunter's Creek in less than two weeks.
I'm black and I have not even CLOSE to experienced being spat on! (LOL!)
In fact, I think it's hilarious that you even created this thread.
Never had a problem.....Not even once!
Most people who feel that way, feel that way toward thugs.
If you're a professional, then you have nothing to worry about.
But, as long as we're keeping it real....Brothers DO commit a lot of crime down there, so a lot of the skepticism is easily justified.
Saying Orlando is not progressive is like saying that the moon is made of cheesy puffs!
Trust, you'll be fine.

I really hope you will not base your opinion of Orlando on this message board. As a whole Orlando is very open-minded and progressive. There are only a few posters that have voiced their opinions on minorities (and voice and voice) but it is only a handful of people that are very active posters and probably do not act in a racist manner in real life. Some just find this a venting board for frustrations. Orlando has it's problems but I do not feel racism is a big one at all. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I will try to help.

yeah, if anything whites are the minorities anyhow. and really, orlando isnt friendly now, and i really doubt it was 2 yrs ago. when visiting, you may see things differently. orlando isnt friendly. i like fla and i am not negative, i just call it like i see it. i talked to a woman from charlotte a few weeks ago who just moved to orlando. orlando is much smaller than charlotte and she missed charlotte a lot. she said ppl in orlando are far less friendly. she really didnt want to be in orlando. when we found out we both lived in orlando (we were in nc at the time) we both kind of gave eachother like a "i'm sorry" look.

Dude have you read any of the posts on here except mine??? Read those post and Orlando is one of the most hate filled places i have ever seen. I am ASKING the question not making the statement. IF you read my post i said that it wasn't what i experienced 2 years ago..
But if you read this place to try to get a view of the city, its pretty much an outright hatred of anyone NOT white.
i looked at Chattanooga, and no where did i see as much hatred, they touted the melting pot of their city as being a postive, orlando seem to have nothing more than an us vs them mentality and if your one of them leave or don't come. i will visit in december and i hope the view on this board and the overall view of orlando

Okay, so, if you visited here 2 years ago and the hatred that's being spewed on this board was NOT what you experienced, then why the concern?
I'm sure I don't have to tell you that when people are tucked away nice and safe behind their IP addresses, they can be whoever they want to be and say what they want to say with no fear of reprisal.
Out there is where it matters! Not on some message board full-o-rebs.
Believe me, you'll be fine.

Most of us are nothing like the few you see posting the same 'diatribes' ad naseum on this board. Most of us have a life and are enjoying it. We get along with everyone. Somehow we are not always the victim of horrendous crime and terribly rude drivers, etc. We are just normal, everyday people. My neighborhood is very diverse and everyone is friendly. I live in the newer area of East Orlando, Lake Nona, Vista Lakes, Tivoli Woods. Visit us....I know you will find real people here are quite different from the usual flavor presented on this board.

Me thinks the OP was talking about the over all gist of the Orlando forum.....
There are very few thread that don't contain a derogatory remark about a different nationality "taking over."
Thanks to the usual naysayers....I find the Florida forum very boring.

Never been to charlotte, been to birmingham, atlanta, tampa.
If you have never lived in the northeast, then you dont know what unfriendly is, because people in the north can be 20x jackasses i have ever seen in the south. So maybe they dont have the southern hospitality as much as it used to but they are not the miserable angry sob that us northerners can be. NOT EVEN CLOSE I have traveled south more in the last few years and oh my god is it so much more relaxing.
Orlando is a very friendly city, i am disabled and getting on the bus, and doing anything there was much much nicer. People actually helped many of th times and no one was starting a fight with the bus driver because i was getting on and they weren't about to move. I have seen that many of times here. Drivers actually help out, hook you up. Wher the drivers do anything they can including outright LIE so they don't have to pick you up.
So if you think orlando is unfriendly, go to Philly, Pittsburgh, NYC, Jersey, Buffalo, Cleveland.
Even in atlanta which is the MOST northern like city i have seen in the south, its busy and very metropolitan but still no where near as bad as being in NYC or Philly.
