The Good "and" Bad of ORLANDO!!!
Since everyone always argues on this forum about why other people can't have thier own opinion.....I would like the positives and negatives to be shown by "ALL" of the posters here in this thread.
Moderator cut: personal commentsI am considered a "negative" poster by many on here (even though im probably more positive in real life than these people would like to believe)..but even on here i have suggested nice areas to live and fun things to do while living in Orlando....so "Positive" people?..here is the question...Do you actually experience or see negative issues hear or are there really none in your personal life? This way we can gauge who is being overly positive and trying to turn a blind eye to the issues....It's nice to throw the negative under a floormat and forget it's there but when you are the one actually being affected by it then it needs to be talked about so maybe we all just come from different experiences on here....We all have heard the statement that things happen "everywhere"....well we live in Orlando and i would like to point out the negatives and positives of living "here" for once instead of comparing states or cities....besides we live "here" and not "everywhere"
I will start this thread off with how i think we should post in it if you want so we can all see that none of us lives a "perfect" life....so here it goes:
POSITIVES of ORLANDO (Why "I" would want to live here):
1) The Weather and amount of sunshine here
2) Attractions and Entertainment
3) Nice location to everything (the beaches, other cities, in the middle of Florida)
4) Lots of good places to eat/resturants
5) plenty of jobs in the service industry
6) not alot of Urban Blight (trash on grounds or graffiti)
7) I love seeing Palm trees
7) I like my job/boss and have some friends/my mother here.
NEGATIVES of ORLANDO (Why "I" wouldn't want to live here)
1) Attitudes/coldness of people that i see in public places everyday
2) Aggresive Drivers and Road Rage
3) Crime being so close to nice areas
4) clubs/other entertainment closing too early
5) City Planning and government decisions
6) Not alot of jobs available for career type jobs
7) Cost of living isnt suitable unless you have a great paying job. (I know lots of people my age having 2/3 roomates to live in nice safe areas)
Now whoever else has "positives" AND "negatives" to talk about then please give us your opinions...
Thank you,

I agree with some of the things you mention, such as the driving. I love living here but dear god in heaven people are savages on the roads here.
AND the road system has not grown as fast as the population so it really struggles at times. A good hint is all the crosses you see along the roads.
I however don't find people to be unfriendly. I am Bigger then life Texas friendly though and I can get a stone cold rude Yankee to talk so that might be part of the difference.
I enjoy all the tourists when I am in Orlando because I like talking to people from other places and often strike up conversations with them.

I get some people to talk to me alot too...but there are more people in my experience here that i'll say "Hi" or "What's up?" to them just to be friendly and ill smile when i say it too and they will just look at me and walk away like im stupid for asking them or telling them anything...i get that here more than most places ive been `..its not that everyone is rude here but ive met more here that are compared to other places ive lived
Thanx for your views and opinions,

I agree completely. Never seen anything like it, with the exception of parts of south FL

My list would almost exactly match yours, except for a few tweeks:
Positive 7b: I like that my mother is in NY and I'm here. I get along best with my mother when I can put at least 1000 miles of solid rock and magma between her and me.
Negative 1: I haven't really encountered this very much, certain a lot less than in Delaware if I visited Wilmington.
Negative 2: I would put this at number 1, the drivers here are nuts.
Negative 4: I don't like clubs or other similar forms of entertainment, so this doesn't affect me.
Negative 3 and 7: Not that these are great, but they aren't really about Orlando, they're about any populated area. It's the nature of places with a high population density that everything will be close to everything else, and I don't think there are many populated areas where a single person can afford to live on their own and still have money left over.

1) Attitudes/coldness of people that i see in public places everyday (((Need more! I really doubt that you'll find anyplace in the whole of the USA that doesn't have their fair share of tools!)))
2) Aggresive Drivers and Road Rage (((Again, you're gonna find 'road ragers' all over. Try to escape them.....Well, you may as well try and grab the wind.)))
3) Crime being so close to nice areas (((Not much that can be done about that! "Welcome to The Hood. Nice area - 10 miles, less 5 mile buffer zone")))
4) clubs/other entertainment closing too early (((Hahaha....Those days are well behind me, being a 30 something married man! But OH, the memories!)))
5) City Planning and government decisions (((Two words.....Big Dig!)))
6) Not alot of jobs available for career type jobs (((I'm in I.T. - Moving to Hunter's Creek in one week. Started seriously looking and submitting resumes about 5 weeks ago. I start 11/19. They're definitely out there.)))
7) Cost of living isnt suitable unless you have a great paying job. (I know lots of people my age having 2/3 roomates to live in nice safe areas) (((Agreed)))

Basically your acknowledging that there are no positives in Orlando
1. The weather is one of the worst climates in the country. 95 degrees for 120 days 90 degrees for another 100
2. Attractions and Entertainment--This place has no culture, people are entertained by a theme park once or twice in a lifetime unless they are a total moron.
3. Orlando has the worst location in the State and the country, sure you can drive an hour to beaches, but everyother city in Florida is on the coast, so why is spending $30 on a half tank of gas to go to the beach a plus? Also the big problem with Florida is that you can't experience any contrast at all without driving 500 miles.
4. Good places to eat. Orlando has by far the worst local food I have ever tasted, and I have lived in 7 cities and traveled to hundreds. If you like price gauging chains this is your place. If your one of those people I see standing outside the Olive Garden on Saturday night with that vibrator, I envy you, I really must be missing something.
5. Jobs in the service industry--Wonderful we can offer high school dropouts more opportunity than other cities.
6. No urban blight--Our entire downtown is urban blight. When was the last time your destination was downtown unless to visit a tatoo parlor??
7. You love seeing palm trees? Have you ever seen peak fall colors or flowers blooming in the spring?
8. Your mother is here--I'm sure she is great woman, but I've never met her.
The key to happiness is convincing oneself they are happy, for that I envy you.

Kinglouix, I get the feeling you really hate it here. I am not thrilled with this place either, but it is not as horrible as you make it out to be. I will probably have to move back to NJ, not because I hate it here, but because I am having trouble getting a job in my field. My field is saturated with job seekers here in the Orlando area.

What's your field?? Also, I loved New Jersey when I lived there, things could be a lot worse.

I am in Human Resources, but now I am studying to be a paralegal. Both fields are saturated here in Central Florida. I too, love NJ, but I like it here too.
