Unhappy Looking for Tex-Mex

Pleeease, I'm dying here, people! I am relocating from Texas (once I sell my Houston house), and I am visiting my husband in Orlando every other weekend, as he transferred with his job the end of Sept. I cannot understand why there is no great Mexican food to be found. Good homemade tortillas, homemade chips, and chunky salsa loaded with fresh tomatoes, onions, and cilantro. Haven't any Mexican people opened any restaurants in that area? I will miss my Tex-Mex terribly if I can't find a great place like the many we have out here. I am not originally from Texas, but I have lived in several states and not tasted any food nearly as good as here in Texas. I don't understand why Texans cook so much better than the rest of us! If any of you Floridians are former Texans, maybe you can give me input. I need a place preferably like the following restaurants: Guadalajara, Pappasito's, Luna's, or El Toro. We plan to move to the Titusville/Port St John area once our house sells, so if there's anything out that way also, I would be very interested in hearing. And what about bbq? Where can I get a tasty brisket plate? What about good Chinese & Italian?

I'm not really a former Texan although i did live in Houston for a year and a half as a kid so i dont remember too much about it, but the only TEX-MEX place ive seen that might look good is called "CHEVY's" and the one i know about is in a plaza near downtown Disney called "THE CROSSROADs".......There is also "Amigo's" which has resturants all over Orlando but im not really positive if they have Tex-Mex there but it is a Mexican resturant though and it tasted pretty good when i went.....good luck....don't know if any of these places would compare to actual Texas Tex-mex......

Go to Pr's there is one in Winter Park on Fairbanks and one on Kirkman Road. Amigo's is plain awful and if your coming from Texas, Amigo's is plain laughable.

I always wondered what the difference was between Tex-Mex and regular Mexican food?

For a great Mexican restaurant there is Garibaldi's here in Kissimmee and one on Semoran. Come early because it gets packed!

Garibaldi Mexican Restaurant
1804 W Vine St, Kissimmee, FL
929 N Semoran Blvd, Orlando

Poodle, I feel your pain! I would love to find that salsa again! I lived in southern California for 14 years and have not found a comparible Mexican restaurant here in Orlando yet. We tried Garibaldi's on Semoran and no offense, we thought it sucked.

No offense taken. I have to admit how little I know about Mexican food! I just thought it must be great because it is always so busy every time I have been there.

One thing I noticed is the Mexican food around here is alot less greasy. Out in Texas and Oklahoma they like to sneak grease into everything Mexican. Maybe it's more authentic, who knows.

El Cerro and Maria Bonita are both OK. Maria Bonita has some Mexican food but also alot of Puerto Rican/Cuban food, but mostly Mexican. Both are on the east side of town. El Cerro is near the university.

I like Italian or Greek better.

Thanks for all of the responses thus far!
KingLouix, what is PR's? Does that stand for something, or are those two letters the name of the place?
