A little background for you before my question. I have a hometown hero firefighter/paramedic who is a single mother of a 4 year old little girl. She is buying her first home, but she's in a little bit of a situation. She makes a small salary so she can afford the townhome we got. The tough part is she is basically moving in to the townhome with only an air mattress and clothes. Her ex won't give her a thing from their relationship, including her daughters toys.
My husband is a firefighter/paramedic and I am a former EMT. Any police officers/firefighters are automatically family to us! Instead of the typical closing gift, I want to go above and beyond for her. I need to ask everyone here for your advice. So my question is, how do I help her? I have already gathered a few things from my house, items from my neighbors, and I even got her daughter some Christmas gifts. I thank you for reading this and for any suggestions. Please know that I don't know how to go about asking people to help this firefighter because I've not done this before, and she is a wonderful person to help out. Thank you for reading this, and hopefully giving her a great start to her new life and upcoming holiday season. |

What you are trying to do is great! I have a couple of suggestions for you..... Do you or her have a church that you go to? They very often have funds set up for things like this or will quietly ask people to help out. Another thing you could try is calling 211 - this is a community resource hotline that has numbers for churches and organizations that may be able to help. I wish you and your friend the best!

Thank you SO much cmjfla! I truly appreciate you taking the time to write. I will take all your suggestions, and use them tomorrow! She is a wonderful person, and very proud and independent too! She is so used to helping others, yet she needs some help but is private about it too. I was worried people may read my post and think "well she can afford a townhome, she can take care of herself." She's just extra special, and as of today i have gotten a queen sized bed and frame and headboard. thanks again for helping me help her!
