Baldwin park is nice if you like that fake northeaster style in Florida. I thought people want to move to Florida to be in Florida not up north.

It`s a Northern style area thrown in the sub tropics.

Well, there were'nt too many trees to begin with. Baldwin Park is built on a former Navy base. Mostly school buildings and barracks. They did make a beautiful park with all the ammenities (Blue Jacket Park). The comment about looking out your window and see neighbors wall is quite true. It's an overbuilt community, but that was the design. There larger properties there, but quite expensive.

I am looking in the 300-500K range and I thought an "old-urbanism" house near Park Avenue would be out of range. Also, we like the thought of walking to the big heated pool and maybe bubble car over to the publix when we get frail. We are not sure if we are buying a second home ($300k) or a cash out up north option which would allow us to buy a fizzle out/big enough to host christmas home ($500k)

My northerner sensibility finds the multitude of Florida 1940s+ bungalows on large lots to be truely offensive...sorry for sounding snobby...thats just how I am. I DO like the Eloa and Cherokee Lake areas, but again, very pricy, not sure about common facilities, assume I have to go on a "regular" ugly street to get groceries. the horror :-)

We are also dog people and have fallen in love with Fleet peebles.

I do need to spend some time in Winter Park and College Park next time we are down.

Sounds to me Baldwin Park is the perfect area for you. If you like the Eola and Cherokee Lake area you will also like the Winter Park area around Lake Knowles and pretty much all of the area west of Lakemont. There are not near the amount of common facilities in the area though. And you'll have to get on the "ugly" streets to get groceries, go to restaurants and entertainment.

As far as College park goes, if your are offended by 1940's bungalows on large lots, you will NOT like college park at all, as this is what dominates the area.

Blue Jacket Park.

Not everybody has kids. Baldwin Park is trying to strike a balance between the needs of the residents. If you want a large yard you could live in the nearby areas of Winter Park and still be close to downtown Baldwin Park.
