Driving around my neighborhood today, just because, I noticed quite a few homes for sale, and I know some of the houses were once occupied. It's like people move in, and then they leave. A cousin of mine who lives here told me Orlando was very transient, and people are usually on their way out. I find this to be pretty accurate thus far. A neighbor of mine, that we just met actually a couple months ago, already has their house for sale. I think it is quite strange.
So my question is, to all you forumers out there, does Orlando feel like home to you? |

Not really but I've never felt at home much of anywhere I lived, being a former military brat. I was most "at home" living in the UK, next place I'd rate is Tulsa, though it is a bit on the conservative side for my tastes. As a kid I loved living outside of Tampa in a mostly rural area, but it isn't rural anymore. Orlando is way too messed up for me to feel like it is home. Oviedo is OK, has some problems (traffic is only getting worse), but at least it isn't a craphole like most of the rest of Orlando. Unfortunately you only have to drive a few miles away and you find crap like the Amazon Mall, which looks almost third world if you've ever been in there. Heck, it is thrid world with a bunch of "carga aqui" shops and nobody speaks good English in that area and there are thug-looking cholos driving around in beat-up cars.

This is my home.....it's not perfect, but it's also not as horrible as the haters try to make it out to be.
I'm happy here...unlike some others I've been reading, I make the best of situations. I look at the whole picture. There is good and bad, but that describes just about every area of this size I know. |

I can relate to some of this post... as far as the ghetto aspect and the traffic in Oviedo, which, overall, is pretty nice. I'm not sure what "carga" means though? And where is the Amazon mall by the way? Last edited by the9thwonder; 11-15-2007 at 01:31 PM.. |

No Orlando doesn't feel like home. Pretty sad since it was my home for over 30 years. I was raised in Orlando and am sad at what it has become.
A lot of people are not friendly and I have experienced road rage from other drivers. I feel like I am always watching my back there as a female out alone. There are a few nice places, like Thornton Park and such, but overall, Orlando is not a pretty city in my eyes. I am moving to Georgia and have experienced such great southern charm and hospitality there, that Orlando could never compare. Hopefully my new home in GA will feel like home, Orlando let me down. |

Maybe since you tend to looks at the negative side of things, I can see how you would believe that.
