I Need Feedback On Correction Officer , Juvenile Detention Officer, And Probation Offcr Jobs In Orlando Area. Anyone Currently I One Of These Positions. I Am A Former Nys Co Looking To Relocate .i 'd Like To Know About The Position.

Is this with the Orange County Jail?

What lots of people don't know is that the Sheriff's Office does NOT run the jail. It's controlled by the Orange County Board of County Commisioners.
It is growing rapidly and parts are state of the art.

If you go to Employment
you will see the current openings.

If you are interested in being a deputy you will need to go to Orange County Sheriff's Office - Home and search the job listings there.

Why would the the Sheriff's Office or the County Commissioners run the jail; aren't jails forbidden to be run by county and municipal authorities? I know in Delaware, only the state government is allowed to operate jails, except for temporary holding cells.

Apply with Hillsborough County Sheriff for Detention Deputy @ hcso.tampa.fl.us. Anywhere west florida, pay is alot better and only an hour drive from orlando. Orlando has high crime rate and homocide rate. Sheriff Beary did not want to run the jail, so the County Board of Commissioners assumed the responsibility. Things are done alot differently in Florida and it's like a foreign country,especially Orange County. You have alot of bad apples who are living here from the carribean and have brought with them their criminal instincts and disregard of the law and no respect for Law Enforcement of Correction Officers. With florida being the hub for all drugs from central america and with alot of gang activity has made florida a dangerous place to live despite Disney world and Universal Studios. Also alot of Home Invasions and Robberies. The criminals carry serious fire power AK's, Tech-9s and Rifles. They break into Army Surplus and steal them. Think about it before you come down. I am leaving next year.

Ok let's get the facts straight shall we? The Board took over the Jail before Beary was in office. It was either Walt Gallagher or Larson Lamar that held the office at the time.
The tri county area is growing and it's having major growing pains but there are still alot of nice safe areas in which to live.
As to who is allowed to run the jails I believe that is up to the individual states. Orange County technically is a State Charter one of the few in the state. You might be confusing jails with prisons.

Get serious... a high cirme area is a good place to go job hunting when you are a corrections officer. This guy obviously is not some sissified wimp afraid of a little crime, since he'll have to deal with potential violence on a daily basis at his job. I'm not saying Orlando's crime is a good thing but correction officers wanting to relocate to high crime areas can't be a bad thing.

Though I don't know if Orange County or Seminole is hiring. It seems to me we need more cops. Sherrif Beary was always complaining that he couldn't afford to hire enough deputies.
