Default Shuttle launch viewing....need advice please

Some friends and I plan on driving from Tampa on Dec 6th to see the shuttle launch. I would like to know if any of you can offer some help as to where decent viewing would be.......we don't expect a front row seat but hope to have a clear view and still be able to get out of the traffic and headed back home in a decent amount of time.

Thanks for your help!!

take a look at he KSC website. They have several locations listed. There are 2 that we like -

Space View Park - Titusville - you are across the water from the pads, they have the mission control broadcast on loud speakers, food, etc. The true "geek" hangout for launches. It's awsome!

Rt 528 just south of KSC. - this one works in a pinch. big problem especially at the time of the next launch - TRAFFIC! Last time we used this for a "launch and dinner" thing we spend HOURS in the traffic.

Here is a great link for info on viewing the next launch....Launch Viewing: Where & How to Watch, View and See Space Shuttle Launches

Luckily we can see it pretty well from here but there is nothing better then seeing it as close as possible. Have fun and let us know how it goes.

I go South on SR50 onto A1A and park at the Holiday Inn. It's a great viewing site! It's easy to get to and to get out of after the launch. Enjoy!

Just be sure to go - I saw a night launch in January of 1997 (Atlantis STS-81) with someone I loved who later died - it was a dream come true for both of us. I am so glad we went and it was spur of the moment.

I saw the last night launch they had. It was amazing how it lit up the sky like daytime. I can't imagine a daytime flight beating that but I still want to get there for a daytime launch. I think anyone who can should see a launch because it's just great. I love how people just park their RV's on the side of the roads and cook out all day long too. We had a camp fire going on the side of the road and people all around just came and joined us. It was so neat. Just get there early because it gets crowded.
