If you are on the North side of town, (Which Altamonte is), why not look into the communities around Altamonte?

There are some places in Longwood, Apopka (Seminole County part), Casselberry that can be rented for your range.

I live in the Wekiva/Apopka area and it is very nice.

I lived in Altamonte Springs. It's decent but yes congested. I lived on the west side of I4 as well, renting an apartment. Really it's hit or miss. $1100 there can get you a decent place, but nothing spectacular. Lived in Winter Garden as well but in a crappy area so I won't be of any use to you. Personally I loved Oviedo, if you don't mind a cross town drive with no major interstate. It's quiet and safe and all the schools around there were top rated. I felt relatively safe in Altamonte Springs but there were some really sketchy people in my apt. community so I wouldn't walk by myself(I am a 30 something female, raised in small town Midwest, deduce from there...) at night. Oviedo, on the other hand, always felt safe, granted I lived next door to the police department. My neighbors used to joke that the Oviedo police would pull you over if you went 1 mph over the speed limit, they weren't lying THEY DO! If I didn't have a commute I would have stayed in Oviedo until I left CFL.
