Well after moving and now living here for more than 3 weeks I can say that I really like Orlando area. There are good and bad parts to it, as there are in any major city in the world. My whife loves it also and my baby boy seems to really enjoy the warm weather.
So far we have been bussy getting settled and taking care of things such as buing a car, getting the SSN for my whife, obtaining drivers licenses, finding an apartment and a nice day care center and trying to get jobs. The main issue now is finding a job in the IT-Field. I am a highly motivated IT-Professional with more than 6 years of extensive experience in information system technology and eager to strive for more knowledge. Strong background in Microsoft systems administration, storage & backup solutions and help desk support. Expert in firewall and VPN technology. Loyal team player with in-depth hands on hardware systems installation and troubleshooting experience. Can someone help me find a job or provide me with a lead? I am on all the main internet job portals and have my resume searchable to recruiters and employers. Thank you for trying to help ! |

l Dynamics, Raytheon, Harris and all of
the other contractors. I can can definitely say that Lockheed c Quote:
based in Orlando and most if not all big contractors have a strong presence there. Look at Lockheed, Northrop, General Dynamics, Raytheon & Harris. Contractor List Top 200 Contractors (8/15/07) -- www.GovernmentExecutive.com I can can definitely say that Lockheed can _not_ seem to find qualified personnel to fill their IT jobs quick enough, but they are very degree centric. Northrop & General Dynamics are not very degree centric from what my subcontractors say. Either way Military experience seems to go a long way depending on the project. I'm a software engineer who's been working on a government contract for the past three years, and have worked with a few IT folks from Lockheed Martin. First, do NOT sell yourself short on your salary. With the cost of living increasing so rapidly in the last few years, these companies love to hire people looking for the 'Florida experience' without realizing that the cost of living in Orlando is not what it used to be 10 years ago. I've worked with quite a few people who openly admit they wouldn't be able to afford the house they're living in now if they tried to buy it within the last 3 years because salaries haven't increased much within the same company. That said, a significant amount of IT jobs are within these government contracting companies, and Orlando is seen as the Silicon Valley of military simulations. Lockheed Martin, SAIC, Harris, Raytheon, L3 Communications, and Northrup Grumman are just a few of the players here - there are many smaller companies in the industry. Since IT can be useful to a company in nearly any field, you shouldn't have trouble finding a job here.
Just make sure you agree to a salary you can live with after you discover the cost of living. Also, the Orlando area grew far too fast for the road system, so be prepared for long waits through traffic if you don't live near work. I'd suggest renting until you're stable in a job. Luckily, the east side of town has a large portion of these government simulations contracts, so you can avoid the headache of I-4 and toll road traffic if you live over here. |
