What do you expect out of a growing city anyway? You go to any city, big or small, and you will still find that people complain about traffic and other similar things. If anything, traffic means that people drive here because there is work available, which generates the need of goods and services and generates more work and so on. So is not a bad sign. As for crime...where can you go that you couldn't find crime? Lets be realistic. Obviosly if you go to a "rough" part of town, things are going to happen. It's all about where you go/move.
hahahaha

the "rough" part of Orlando... is.... ORLANDO!!!!! hahahaha

Please save yourself and don't evacuate here during a storm!! And crime here in this posh town is just as bad as anywhere else.

For all those who believe the schools here are "excellent"... you probably have never had your kids in other states' school systems... You don't have a clue. Until you get one, you will settle with the substandard education your children are receiving and do absolutely nothing about it. Now that Florida is going to use Kelly Services to not only grade the FCAT, but to replace our substitutes teachers, it is only going to get worse. There is a reason why so many people like me are complaining about the schools... think about it... there must be something to it.
WHERE DID YOU GET THAT?????i live on the winter springs side of oviedo. the bypass roads are almost finished to get traffic through the old down town area which will take care of the problem. it has never taken me an hour to get from 1 side to another. crime here in this posh town is low. its always been low.
i cant say much about the schools other than to say that everyone is complaining about every school every where....i had 1 kid in nj schools and 2 kids in oviedo. its not like 1 kid is smarter than the others.
if this posh town pisses you off so much, move out to bithlow. this posh town is out to remain a posh town.
i think you are missing alot of facts.

I just moved away and just wanted to say that I was miserable in the Oviedo area. I agree with many things that the prior poster did say. I think she is referring to the downtown Oviedo area right? I used to avoid that like the wind, I don't recall it taking an hour to get through there but that light was really bad by the child resale shop. The traffic was bad in the area for us due to our location too. My husband worked in on 1-4 over near the Maitland so it was all boulvards there. For those reading this, remember it is not by miles to judge distance but by lights and how many boulevards to take. Our home was 17 miles from my husbands job and it took him 45 minutes to get there. Just coming on here and reading some of the statements has made me glad to have moved. It was very stressful living there and I did not realize how much till I moved to another state and even if many who are from there don't see it in the local attitudes, I never felt welcome by many there, old Oviedo was very townie and as my pastor there put it, people there will go within their legal rights to find out who you are. It is part of the vivicous cycle that surrounds that area due the transients coming in and the locals not knowing who they were . Now as I said this in genral, not everyone is like this. As far as schools go in Seminole, they are the best in the state and imo better than the some of the privates around Oviedo. Yes we tried a couple of private schools for our child however where we are at, the education is much better now and the attitudes of people are greatly better. I will say that I did meet some great people but at the same time I never met in my life so many people who wanted to start conflicts, try to pry like they did into our lives and be overly suspicious, ect ect. If any one has lived long enough in Oviedo, remember the bomb scare behind the Winn Dixie? That was a hoax and the police chief had to come out and apologize to the family. I remember it so well and was scared to death we had moved to the wrong part of town when we moved in then to find out it was all a rumor started by grown women in that neighborhood just by gossipping. One was a pastors wife which mortifies me. They ruined a youngs mans reputation and trashed his family. They only did this because he was simple and felt he was wierd. You can't survive that area unless you are in some sort of group however the only we survived was by being in church and doing things as a family and getting involved with some social clubs. It helped tremedously.... I just wish that our experience could have better but it wasn't. I appreciate all those that were kind, there kindness will be remembered tremendously and shined tremendously into our lives. Sorry if it turned into a vent but this is true.... I just wasn't cut out for living there.

Right on!!! I am so outta here!!! I am moving to a much nicer place where the people are realistic, educated, and just all around more pleasant, and not small minded good ole boy local idiots without a clue that their small "posh" town is an shameful embarrassment. By the way, I use the term "posh" losely!! You know Oviedo High School is the #1 drug trafficking school in Seminole County according to the Sherriff's Dept.

low Crime in this posh town?? you are kidding me right!! how blind can you be? One of the reasons YOU don't see it is because it is being done by kids under 18.
As long as people keep turning their heads and pretending that the "trash" doesn't exist, to them, it never will. I just want to scream "Wake up Oviedo and do something about your town!!!!" Quit pretending that you are above it all!!! The filth is at your doorstep. If your kids go to Oviedo high, I dare you to drug test them and their friends. As I said before, I use the term "Posh" very losely (used in context with Oviedo is an oxymoron) There are no crime free areas in Orlando. quit sugar coating it with mickey mouse!

Everyone has their own opinions about different places...some people like orlando, some do not. For those that do not, i fail to understand why they remain here. If it was really that bad, then i would do anything possible to leave. Good luck though...becasue guess what...traffic, idiots, "posh" neighbourhoods, "bad" neighbourhoods, drugs, etc are going to be found everywhere and then you will find your self complaining about that new place. So instead of making yourself bitter...suffering others and about what goes around in this and EVERY city...as an individual, do the best you can to avoid trouble and become successful in what you do. And stop looking for the bad stuff and focus and the good stuff.

Hi. I don't live in Fla., but have been there several times. We have family there and have always flown into Orlando. Before you move there, go to the website of their local paper. There is a forum there. I urge you to join it and find out for yourself what some of the people are like there.

Default Moving Out

I live in Lake Mary, a supposed top-notch town in the Orlando area, right next to the affluent Heathrow (overrated section of Lake Mary). At night I am stuck in my town because the towns next to me Sanford and Longwood are high in crime, above the national average statistically. Keep in mind Sanford and Longwood are still much better than the dreaded Orlando when in comes to crime.

I have lived in suburban Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Long Island, and I never had to worry about going out at night. We had our bad areas, but by and large PA, NJ, and LI were safe. Don't believe me, check out the statistics.

I feel like I live a prison called Lake Mary because the Orlando Metropolitan is so high in crime, rude people, and uneducated poor people. The nicest people I have met here were in the tourist areas of I-drive, Universal, Disney, and Sea World. The reason they were nice was because they were on vacation. But the residents here are so rude and never come out of their homes. No wonder Orlando was voted the nations Angriest city.

I love the weather, the beaches, and the amusement parks. But the residents are so unhappy here due to low paying jobs, increasing taxes, terrible schools, and most of all a police department that is inadequate to deal with the rising crime due to the transient population. This goes for all the counties Orange, Volusia, Osceola and the more affluent Seminole.

My advice...Orlando is a vacation destination. Stay in Disney, Universal, Sea World or go to the beach, Kennedy Space Center. BUT do not live here. Like Las Vegas, Orlando is a vacation spot, not a place to live.

Geez....I live in Orlando - the east side and don't recognize the places you guys are talking about. I moved here two years ago from Winter Park and it was certainly not anything like what you're talking about either. Either I'm in a parallel universe or it is mostly only the people who don't like it here that post on this board. Everyone I know LOVES it here. I go all over Orlando - spent a recent Friday evening enjoying a fantastic Broadway Show at the Bob Carr - DOWNTOWN. Will be dining at the Citrus Club - DOWNTOWN this Tuesday evening for my husband's company Christmas Party. We are often downtown - I work downtown....NEVER had a problem! NEVER been a victim of any crime in 23 years and neither has any of my friends.
